Staines would have to be at fullback and at this point I don't see it if Iva is looking for the next person to step up.
I don’t think so. The much maligned Dylan Edwards, when fit really has been our best option at fullback, particularly as it allows us to play Crichton in the centre’s and Staines on the wing. It has worked for us for the most part, injuries and suspensions aside and has allowed Ivan to play his best 17. I think 2022 will be every man for himself, and Ivan will be looking towards who is best going forward. Unless he gets injured in the weeks ahead, Dylan will remain our fullback for the remainder of this season. At the same time I think 2022 may be an entirely different scenario and May the best man win.

It's how the club has worked up until now. Granted with Gus being gone Ivan and Brandy might have a very different philosophy.
Not really mate. Plenty of young guys were in and out of FG when Gus was here.

Staines has always played fb whereas May has been an outside back through the juniors so while he is only playing game 2 he probably knows the position better than Charlie at this point.

I think Kilkenny just mention Pappenhuzen which I will piggy back off, as good as Pap is would you take him on the wing over Bizza? If Charlie is going to be a gun fullback it won’t be off the back off his ability to make tough metres it will be off the back of his speed and skill which he can use a lot more effectively at fb. On the wing his greatest weakness(size) can really hurt him.

That would be my preferred option. Let them earn the spot. I do agree with the thought he needs a little weight on, just not too much.

Ultimately Staines needs a couple of kg (not too much) and a good run at fullback. The best backline long term would potentially have both Staines and May in it. After watching guys like Egan, Blake and more I'm not overly confident. It's always the players I like.

Shall we give the 20 year old kid a chance to grow into his body before placing him on the scrap heap?

A summer in the gym will do wonders for Charlie.
Your right in what you say, I think Charlie will surely benefit from a good off season, build up his body further and all, but I don’t think he can build himself up to such a degree to sustain himself as an NRL winger. Valentine Holmes is not dissimilar to Charlie Staines in body shape and physique, he ‘s not much bigger and he somehow remains trapped in the equation of what his best position is. At the end of the day, we want our players to succeed not fail.

I don’t really know what the best long term back line will be but having so many options is a good thing. By next season Turuva and the tall blond guy will be FG options also, there will be a lot of competition for spots even with the guys we have leaving.

Jnr May is a pretty good winger in his own right plus has the personal connection so I don't see it unless he takes over Edwards at fullback but being dropped on the wing seems pretty damning.
Going by your previous statement, Taylan’s cards may be marked too now 🤣

Yeah the development machine is just now producing at 100% so people are going to miss out or have to go to other clubs like Burton. It's bittersweet but will benefit the club and hopefully keep us top 4.

Thomas Jenkins? He’s probably the kid you are thinking of maybe.

Competition for spots is what we need, that is a given.

It’s never ever been my intention to write Charlie Staines off, all I have ever said is I’m not sure he can sustain an NRL career as a winger, but I do think he is worth giving a sustained opportunity as a fullback. Given Dylan’s injury history you would have to think such an opportunity may arise and I don’t say that with any disrespect to Dylan.

Thomas Jenkins is the tall blonde oke youre referring to.

Ive only seen a little bit of him but he reminds me a bit of how matt burton plays at centre.

Runs good hard lines and has plenty of toe.

Not sure he will feature next year but maybe 2023 for sure.

Thomas in another from the Central West production line. I think I read he was upgraded to a development contract earlier this season. He has a great physique, very athletic, talented but I’m not quite sure on him. Maybe, maybe not he has never quite convinced me he has NRL written all over him But that doesn’t mean much.

Yep Jenkins is the guy I meant, looks like a good player to me at centre or wing. Got size and speed abd can certainly find the try line. Also a friend of a friend of my family so I’ve heard he’s a very nice young man which is always good.
