The fact of the matter is that Seibild obviously thinks Sam with one arm is better than the fringe players at Souths which I tend to agree with. Let’s be honest he still managed to play better than Clark and Tatola!
We're currently on a three game losing streak one week out from finals and a crocked Sam Burgess has played 210 minutes of a possible 240.
The last two games have been lost badly and Sam has averaged 100 run metres, down from 149.5 over the rest of the season. He has a tackling efficiency of 86.8% for the season.
Cameron Murray who would replace him at lock averages 109.3 metres per game in 57.5 minutes when wearing the 13. So even though he doesn't have the power game that Sam does, his 6 games starting in 2018 have reaped more metres from less minutes than Sam's previous two efforts. Murray also has a tackling efficiency of 90.8%.
Jason Clark in 25 minutes v Brisbane had more impact on a game than any of Sam's previous two. His time on the field was the only time we looked like winning.
Tevita Tatola has played 36 minutes in the past three games, including 8 v Easts and 7 v Canberra. Sure he's not elite but in a period of the season when we looked fatigued, his fresh legs were left sitting. He is a guy could benefit immensely from getting some minutes on the park but instead has sat down for 70+ minutes in games while we're being beaten with injured and fatigued players on.
We all know how good Sam can be when he is fit and firing but the facts are that his past two or three weeks haven't been better than what a fringe player would serve up and the results reflect that.
