Your dreamin, Cook went well, far better than expected.

Did we watch the same game?

Parramatta found the grass with almost every long kick.
After taking a heavy knock in his first kick return he continually passed it straight to graham to do kick returns.
He refused to attack any bombs that were put up.
He managed not to stuff up on the first we scored, but after that he managed to stifle any backline move he was involved with including a few errors. And was caught out on kicks in goal.

But he did make that 1 good run so i guess all that can be ignored

You must be a Cook hater, poor refereeing and failure to complete their sets in the second half cost Souths that game.

Wow! I'm so, so proud of the boys tonight. We didn't quite get the win, which I don't think anyone expected us to anyway, but we have finished off the year on a good note. I thought it was going to be close to a repeat of last week I must be honest. It was probably the weakest line up all year and so many of our best players were out. However, to the guys that came in and went out there, I say well done. They everyone was pretty good and everyone was putting in a big effort to ensure that we did finish the year off on the right note.

As I was saying, I don't think anyone expected us to get within 18 points, let alone take the Eels right down to the wire! It obviously wasn't perfect as a few errors and missed opportunities in that second half allowed Parra too many chances but it was a massive effort and that's all I wanted.

Cook: Was good in a relatively unfamiliar position. Looked pretty dangerous when he had the ball, I was really hoping he'd go the length of the field when he made that break but oh well. He was also laying on some nice passes for the outside men and was safe at the back. I did think his positioning was off at times and he did just hand the ball off to Graham a few too many times but overall, he did his job.

Jennings: Was really good. Had some poor defence early on for that first Parra try but really stood up after that. Strong runs which really helped out the forwards, he was more involved in this aspect tonight. Saved the day on defence up against his brother with a few brilliant intercepts and his try in the corner was great finishing. He's starting to improve which is good to see heading into next season.

Fuimaono: Imo, one of our best tonight. Like Jennings, a bit of poor defence early on but boy was he good after that! Damaging, barnstorming runs and he was really involved. Just about every run he took was so powerful. Did a good job to keep Michael Jennings quiet for the rest of the game too.

Goodwin: In his final game for us I thought we was solid. As we've come to expect from Bryson, he did a lot of the shit work and a lot of these were very strong with the late footwork he has. It's a shame he was offside for his try and it wasn't awarded but that;s Rugby League. Defensively, he was shaky at times but that's okay. Been an awesome servant to the Red and Green and I'll be a bit sad to see him go tbh.

Graham: Also solid. This kid takes really tough runs. He seems to always be there when we're working it out of our end and he looks confident in his running as it's nice and hard. In the first half he did a really good job on Semi, unfortunately, Semi got the best of hm later but Camy still did a good job and it is a valuable lesson for him.

Cody: Was good. I thought he controlled things nicely tonight, a better kicking game and he was always looking to create something. He looked pretty dangerous and he was creating opportnities.

Kelly: Did a really good job tonight. I thought we'd look awful with him but it was quite the opposite. His kicking game was nice, prehaps better than Reyno's at times and he was creating things in attack. It's a shame Goodwin's try wasn't awarded as it was a great kick from Kelly. Defensively he was good too. Certainly didn't look like a "dud" tonight.

T.Burgess: Was good, in paticular the last 20 or so minutes. He ran really hard and was bending the line on every run which is what we want to see. It was an impressive performance, him and George are building.

Farah: He was actually pretty good tonight. Was able to control the flow of the game from his manipulation of the ruck at times and this really helped with our go forward. Had a few nice soots too and great play to set up Turner's try. But I still think his service is too slow, it's just not quick enough.

G.Burgess: Similar to Tom's comment. Maybe wasn't quite as impactful as his brother but still good.

Sutton: Solid. Didn't o anything special but did his job and that's all you can ask for. Had a hand in some nice set plays.

Turner: Did a really good job tonight, He needed to step up with Crichton gone and to his credit, he did. Ran hard all night and he actually bent the line back a few times. Kept defence tigh in the middle and his try was awesome!

Murray: Boy, this kid is something special. He's not even that big but is so powerful, seems to carry defenders with him every run and that didn't change tonight. His defensive workrate is huge and almost every tackle was quality. He's showed good stuff this year and I can't wait to see him further develop in 2018.

Britt: had limited minutes but wasn't bad. He was full of energy and had some strong runs, got a few offloads away too. I want to see more.

Clark: Actually pretty strong. He did his job which is all we need from players like him. Clark seems to have discovered some leg drive too which is good.

Tyrrell: Not bad. Same as Clark, did his job. Dave has been a great clubman for us but is is time he departed.

Talaki: Didn't get many minutes at all so there's not much to say. Did he come on as a second rower?

All in all, I'm so pround of this performance after last week. A stark contrast. We went toe to toe with a top four team and the boys can hold their heads high. Our season is now done but it's a good note to finish off. I'm actually really happy with that game.

Apart from that Storm game, I'm satisfied with the finish to the year.

And that's my final game review for the year, hope you guys didn't mind them.

I will be doing a 2017 season review in the coming weeks.

I thought Kelly was very good (better than Reyno actually), going on that performance we should retain them all.

It's been asked elsewhere, why wasn't Cook trialled at fullback earlier in the year?
Kelly' bombs were good and he went better than expected!!!

His long kicks weren't good.

I much rather AR.

But credit to Kelly for going solidly tonight.

I actually was disappointed in Cody a bit. I wanted him to do more and he went missing and his kicking game was not good.

Was a good farewell game for him. He played well. I've been one of his biggest critics in the past too.
I'd very much like to see you come out and try and condemn the team for not showing any heart this time. This was arguably our most courageous performance of the season given that we had absolutely nothing to play for and the number of players that we had out injured. This whole notion that our team doesn't show 'heart' is a complete myth. What people need to understand is that we are a young team going through a rebuilding phase and that we have made the correct call in not paying overs on mediocre talent or players who are past their best in favour of highly promising youngsters.

Its a shame that we didn't win last night because I thought we were the better side and we had enough opportunities to grab the chocolates. Its unfortunate that we didn't have halfback with better execution skills than Luke Kelly playing because he might have been the difference. Moreover, I think our young outside backs got a bit of a lesson in what is required to defend out wide in first grade. I'm not really a fan of wingers and centres flying in because they are playing Russian roulette there; if they don't make a tackle on the ball carrier its a certain try. Nevertheless, Robert Jennings, Campbell Graham and Fuimaono all proved that they were good with the football in their hands.

Other good performances came from Tom Burgess, Damian Cook and Cody Walker. I really feel sorry for the Brugess twins because they have been made scapegoats of our failure to play finals footy. Tom Burgess in particular had a real element of mongrel in his carries and was probably the best forward on the field tonight. George wasn't involved as much but didn't let anyone down. People are going to jump on the NRL website or look at the big leagues and start screaming that Tom only made 150m or that George only made 5 hit ups yet fail to take into account tactics. I get the impression that Maguire wants to limit the amount of carries that Burgess twins make because the more work they do, the more fatigued they will become. When that happens the more likely it is that the twins (and many other front rowers for that matter) will make errors. Basically, he is placing an emphasis on quality over quantity. Also, I think we are playing more laterally as a team these days then we did in 2014 and that is why the number of carriers in the outside backs is higher than in the forwards.

Overall, I think we are a club headed in the right direction. Cameron Murray is the epitome of this with his attitude and his raw talent. The guy is a typical new age forward with mobility, a good turn of pace and a fantastic tackling technique. People can accuse me of being 'biased' but I'm not biased at all. I've critiqued the club and its players plenty of times when it is warranted. I'm just not one of those people who turns on the club the moment things start heading south. Moreover, I refuse to make demeaning remarks about players without offering anything constructive behind it. For instance, calling a player 'hopeless' etc does nothing on here to stimulate discussion or offer any insight into where our team is at or how they can improve.

I've been critical at times but I think he really grew as a player and role model with each and every year.

We brought him from the brink with his ruptured spleen and we turned him from an on and off winger into a solid consistent centre.
I've been surprised at the amount of criticism he has copped on here. The guy is a good, solid first grade player and can stake a claim for being our most consistent player along with Sam. Generally speaking, wingers and centres don't really win or lose you games and I think it would be unfair to blame any of our troubles on Goodwin. If anyone hear watches fox sports then they will have noticed that Greg Alexander waxes lyrical about Bryson and absolutely slammed us for letting him go.

Burgess twins have been fairly criticised all year.

Even last night they weren't that good. Tom did make plenty of metres, and on occasion did run with mongrel, but they let that all go to waste with hugely slow play the balls. The one time tom got a fast play the ball we scored. But mostly it took ages for him to get up, and you could see parra have extra time to get set, have a quick breather and then get their defence on to the front foot. You only have to see the next run after a twin takes the ball up to see that effect, because the line has had time to set and get prepared the next run is always easy pickings.

I thought the refereeing around the ruck area was horrendous for both sides - that is why the play the ball was so slow. What the Burgess twins need to do is to drop 5kgs and improve their mobility. I agree completely with Spud Carroll's assessment. The problem with the Burgess twins is that opposition defences up in their faces before they have chance to build a head of steam up; in other words their acceleration is poor. This needs to be fixed.

Look we're going to have to agree to disagree. Before Madge came to coach this side it was a team that just played to get their pay check. We were the biggest underperformers of the competition and it was embarrassing. I know it came off as harsh but I am genuinely worried that we were returning to those days. I can't fault any players when we went neck to neck with a top 4 side. That was a courageous performance. But when you lose by 60 points that's just a matter of pride. Even Crichton came out and said that the only reason he chased down that storm player was because of his pride. I know there are a few players that come out each week and perform their best and most of them are the young guys but I genuinely believe that there are a few players in this team who just need to go. I have been of the opinion that we needed a rebuild ever since the end of 2015 and it just hasn't happened. Instead we signed everyone up to long contracts and it's destroying us now.

I don't know if I can agree that AR would of made a difference tonight. I think Luke Kelly brought just as much as AR could to the table especially with what AR has dished up this season.

In regards to the Burgess twins you're very right about tom. He had an excellent game, one of his best all year. But is it really a good thing when you have to tell your highest paid props to reduce their workload to increase their effectiveness? If Tom Burgess can pump out performances like that consistently then he is definitely worth his money.

I completely agree with your analysis of all the young blokes. They all had great games. I would of excused us losing by 40 but we came out and gave the Eels a run for their money with our reserve grade squad. As for heading in the right direction I'm not too sure. Getting rid of walker and Madge doesn't exactly sound like the "right direction" to me but we'll find out this time next year.

But the Burgess twins have slow play the balls in good bad or decent officiating.

They are easily dominated when they are tackled and its easy to rush up on them as you have no threat of a pass or offload.

I guess the good thing is that we now have murray, so sam can be a part of the prop rotation. Chuck in Musgrove and and honest worker like Clark or Turner and i think we only have room for 1 twin, which is a good thing

The Burgess twins are "Rusty",literally.
Way to comfortable in their environment and their "Rusty" connection!
And to be honest the "Rusty" connection becomes rather toxic on the team as a whole.

I actually agree with this. They need some motivation to overtake Clark or Turner. How good is Murray though? He's been one of the best rookies I've seen this year we should've debuted him earlier!

I've been thinking that this could be the case also, I prefer the owners to be a bit distant from the players.
