They can go to the game, or they could have seen him play on many of the previous weeks on FTA.

There are many players retiring.

Correct.

Then again I would take Dragons vs Eels over Broncos vs Panthers 10 times out of 10

I don’t think it’s ideal that Parra have been given that 7PM Sunday timeslot but I also don’t think they have some divine right to have the 3PM game. 2PM on Sunday arvo would have been fair given they had day time events planned.

I don't care if it's the Pope playing his last game of football. 11th v 16th doesn't have a divine right to preferential treatment.

i think its more the fact that a Sunday night game for some people who are travelling a couple hours or even more kinda rules people out who have young kids as its school and work the next day.

Hindy and Burt retiring and a sunday arvo at parra stadium would be ideal for young kids and families to send hindy off but now its 7pm some families won't bother now. I'm still contemplating as i have work early next morning and driving home from Parra down to the south coast at 9:30/10pm at night isn't ideal. Especially if i had a young family. A game like Panthers v Broncos would be ideal for a 7pm sunday slot or event the Cowboys v Sharks as both teams (Cows and sharks) will most likely be playing the next week.

Pretty sure it will sell out regardless. Dragons diehards will want to be on hand to farewell Young as well, you won't have any trouble

Did you complain when Steve Menzies' last home game was played on a Monday night? Fact is Parra have been poor and don't deserve special consideration under any circumstance. It makes sense to have 2 teams almost certain to miss the finals play in the final match of the round giving finals bound sides a longer rest.

Why would i care bout Menzies last game? He played for Manly pffft

lol jokes

But seriously i understand both teams will miss the finals i just think in terms of giving fans the best possibilty to see them off is to put it on sunday arvo or even the 5:30 slot on Saturday. Its done now and won't be changed. It sucks that alot of people will opt to not go because of the time but i still think the Stadium will be packed. Just the atmosphere of a nice Sunday arvo at Parra stadium sending off 2 of parras favourites would have been ideal

Exactly what we said in 2008 and despite Manly heading into the finals that year, the scheduling still neglected the final home game of a champion player at least equal to Hindmarsh. It seems that unless you play for the Donkeys, channel 9 just don't care.

Stirring up a hornets nest there :D. Can't put Beaver close to Hindy personlly, but that may just be the blue and gold glasses. Besides, Beaver wasn't retiring, he was just pissing off elsewhere to bump up his retirement fund (and good luck to him).

On top of Hindy though, you have Luke Burt (260+ games) and Dean Young (200 + games) retiring. And if the whspers coming out of the South are anything to go by, Benny Hornby (250+ games) and Matt Cooper (220 games) may be joining them. There's some long serving players there that haven't been caught picking their nose, let alone caused the game any grief. Would be nice to let them go out in a Sunday arvo game. But....

The game need cash, and Fox provides that cash (just not as much as some of us may like), so they have the right to look after their own best interests as well.

Beaver was a far better player than Hindmarsh. And I hate Manly.

2 premierships (96 & 08), and 180 tries (2nd most in NRL history). While Menzies was always more of an attacking player, to suggest Hindmarsh is better than him is showing that you have no perception of rugby league.

how can you compare the 2? Menzies started as a centre then turned into a lock/backrower. Hindy is an out and out backrower. Had great attack when he was coming on the scene but he is a defensive work horse. Menzies is in the same category as Shaun Timmins where he can cover backrow, Five eight and centre. Hindy should be compared to the likes of David Stagg and Dallas Johnson just tireless workers. The only comparison that Beaver and Hindy has in common is they're legends at their respective NRL club and deserve to be.

I'm disputing the idiot who posted before suggesting Hindmarsh is better despite having not achieved the same accolades.

I could probably hack people putting them on the same pedestal - I won't ever agree Hindy is/was better than Menzies.

Using that logic, Johnny Plath and his 4 premierships makes him just about the best hooker of the modern era.

Using 2 stats, whilst ignoring countless others, to rubbish someone elses opinion simply proves that you are a keyboard warrior with no perception of rugby league other than what you download off high speed broadband.

Beaver played almost his entire career in the 2nd row. 5 GFs in the back row, picked for NSW and Australia in the back row. Formed probably the greatest back row in Manly's history alongside Kosef and Gartner early in his career. He only ever really played lock out of necessity but he had the ball skills to play lock or 5/8th. I'd take Beaver over Hindy at pretty much any point in their careers, including today. Beaver was a fantastic defender as well, didn't try to boost numbers by flopping on almost completed tackles but had a technique that allowed him to put some of the biggest blokes on their arse with ease.

Never going to agree on this, but each to their own. I do wonder though when I read comments like the above exactly how many Eels games some people actually watch (and I'll admit that if the Eels aren't playing, I'm less likely to watch a game so I'd expect the same for other fans), because the amount of times Hindy could get involved in a tackle and doesn't (but just lurks "just in case") probably outways his number of flops per game.

Personal opinion is that Hindy is/was the better back rower, but Beaver could could do a fantastic job in a number of positions, hence his high standing in the game.

Brisbane petitioned Ch 9 to have Petero's last game scheduled for Sunday, and 9 ignored them. But please do go on....

Beaver was a good but certainly not outstanding centre, he was a competent 5/8th but a brilliant 2nd rower. I can't see any aspect where Hindmarsh was better. I'd say they were pretty much on par defensively but Beaver was one of the best attacking 2nd rowers I've seen. 180 tries says plenty.

Regardless, their standing within their clubs means they were pretty much on par regarding how their home farewell should be catered for. Beaver's wasn't so I have no problem with Hindmarsh's farewell being treated the same.

Yes and Menzies should have been given a big send off on a Sunday Afternoon on free to air. They changed the time for Lockyer's last game so it could be live. Hindmarsh and Civoniceva have had huge impacts on the game yet Hindy gets 7pm on a Sunday?

Civ at least got a free to air game. And since the fixture is a largely unattractive one, Civ's last game seems the only reason it's on FTA. Both Titans-Manly and Sharks-Cowboys would have been far more interesting QLD Friday night games.

So Petero gets a free to air game but Hindy gets relegated to Sunday night? And that's without even mentioning Burt, Young and the other possibly retiring players.

Beaver was a fantastic defender as well, didn't try to boost numbers by flopping on almost completed tackles but had a technique that allowed him to put some of the biggest blokes on their arse with ease.

Menzies was a brilliant player and equal to Hindmarsh in my book but there's no need to say stupid things to drag him down.

That's just dumb. Norm Provan and Brian Bevan should be the only two immortals then. To say your opinion shows others that they have no perception of rugby league is ludicrous. And premierships are an indication of a quality team, or are you saying Hindmarsh is a worse player than anyone who has won an NRL premiership?
Menzies impact in attack was equal to Hindmarsh's in defence, in my opinion. I hold them as equals.
