Round 3 Vs Broncos

Maybe a wiser move would be to drop Aitken back to the bench to cover Lafai and provide the backrow for with some support as well. So Lomax to right centre, Lafai to left centre and Aitken on the bench.

However, if Mary has such a high opinion of Aitken, why not drop Lafai, put Aitken to his preferred left centre position and Lomax to right centre. I know it is too late now to put Robson on the bench but that is what should have been done - Robson for Allgood or Dufty would have been a sensible idea.

So, Lafai will start with a "hammy" problem, a hammy problem up against one of the speediest players in the league, well that's just great.

Further, if his injury requires a "back-up" on the bench, then there appears to be a risk that he will/may do more injury to it.

The point here is that if Lafai requires a back-up from the bench then the risk is too high. Sit him out for the game would be much wiser than risking him being out for 3 or more games. Start Lomax on the right, move Aitken to the left and keep Dufty on the bench, or is that too logical?

The way to go and if Aitken is falling short, move Widdop to 4 and bring Dufty on at fullback.

Same to you mate.

Except I hope we smash you as more payback for '92 & '93!

I know, I have issues with letting go...

Sat in the same seat for both those grand finals - & that little prik who did us in still? runs on now as the waterboy/messenger

‘Trainers’ should be barred from the field - as in AFL I believe ATM.

Dehydration is part of the game & often indicative of sustained attack by one team

If the defending players are so stuffed they should go to the sideline for a drink? And if they leave a hole, so be it.

FFS back in the 50’s & 60’s the Dragons would deliberately give the ball to the opposition to soften them up for the first 20minutes -
and after Poppa Clay had finished with their inside backs they didn’t want to know about it.

Haven’t seen a tackling technique like his replicated in the modern era - he would hit a player with great force, front on, in a kind of bear hug.... lifting him up and backwards, slamming him onto his back from a great height, with Poppa’s full weight on top.

He had a totally different body shape to modern 5/8’s

He sent so many off on a stretcher

Would love to see Zac get a run at his preferred fullback position & blitz them

Yea, I would love to see that one day too. For now I would be happy if Lomax plays well at right centre combining well in attack and defence on the right edge.

Why would Mcgregor make one easy move when he can shuffle things even more

Apparently Dufty is dropped off the bench tonight for Zac Lomax whom is back up cover for Lafai with a dodgy hammy!
In other words Zac will get 6 minutes at the end!
Or early in the game should Lafai breakdown.
What then happens to our super plan of moving everyone around in the last 10 minutes?

Surely Lafai won't play, Lomax to right centre, Aitken to left centre and Dufty still on the bench so Mary can do the spine shuffle later in the game. Is he just trying to confuse Siebold?

Let's pray BLM01 has got it right and Mary's playing mind games...

So much this.

Hydration my a**!!!

Especially with this mob, Langer's main reason to be out there to set the defensive line.

Utter bollocks imo.

Except for treating injured players, trainers should be banned as you say...

Didn't McNoidea say on NRL 360 that Dufty is on the bench just incase we have an injury in the backline ???
Would have been smarter to carry someone like Timm as an extra forward to prevent fatique instead of asking them to play longer minutes, that's the real reason why we were spent by the 2nd half, having used 2 less replacements in the first 40. Happened against Cowboy's but he said we were in it until 38min mark.
Coach knows best I suppose, we just have to implement rule change for 40 min games only, then we will be "half time premiers"
It is beyond embarrassing of how incompetent this clown is.

Aitken's personal challenge against close mate

Euan Aitken is no stranger to knuckling down in defence averaging over 15 tackles a game last year despite playing on the flanks.

But tonight his defensive capabilities will be put to the test marking up against NSW Blues livewire and junior teammate, Jack Bird. Aitken and Bird came through the Dragons junior ranks together and have played under the same jersey on numerous occasions becoming close friends in the process.

And Aitken says he can't wait to take the field on Thursday night with his former teammate standing opposite him.

“I love coming up against the best players it always makes me play better,” Aitken said.

“I’m looking forward to the battle with birdy (Jack Bird).

“Having that year off gave him a lot of rest and gave him a chance to get his injuries right.

“It seems like he’s doing fine and it seems like a good matchup for me and I can’t wait."

Dragons coach Paul McGregor, also knows bird personally having coached the versatile player through the juniors.

And McGregor knows the pair will be fired up wanting to get bragging rights over each other.

“Jack is a very good footballer,” McGregor said.

“He can play multiple positions and will be playing left centre on Thursday.

“Him and Euan played right through the juniors together so they’ll make it personal that’s for sure.”

While Aitken fights out a battle with his close mate, the battle for the two competition points will take centre stage as the Dragons hope to open their 2019 campaign.

And the key for the Dragons will be starting strong and putting the Broncos halves under pressure according to Aitken.

“If we get the jump on them we can lead from the front really well,” Aitken said.

“When they are put under pressure, especially their halves, they can sometimes crack.

“What is important to us is to start well and weather the storm early from their young and exciting forwards.”

LATE MAIL

Junior Kangaroos star Zac Lomax will make his first NRL appearance of the season for St George Illawarra in Thursday night's match against Brisbane after being called onto the bench in place of Matt Dufty.

Lomax was given the nod over Dufty due to his ability to provide cover in the outside backs as there had been concerns about the fitness of centre Tim Lafai, who has been carrying a hamstring strain.

Dufty is expected to return to the squad for next Sunday's trip to Newcastle as the Dragons will have a 10-day turnaround after playing three games in 12 days to start the season.
