Critchton hasn't been great so far this year. Not bad but just not making breaks like you'd expect.
As far as fullback goes it is a position that takes time to learn. You would need a season to learn it and adjust atleast.

Our left edge looked ridiculous, but that's a huge mismatch. Their weakest area, our strongest. The best play of the night came when Staines went to fb. I want to see if we can conjure up more of that and whether he handles the other aspects of the position.

That said I wouldn't have a problem with the same side. I didn't think Crichton was terrible and sticking with him would help his confidence which looks like it may be an issue.

Nice conversation to be having.

It is a great convo to have

That is how I see it. Crichton got better as the game went on. The left was amazing again and it all flowed.

Naden and Jennings being fit mean the option is there to move Staines but then Burton drops out.

I like how it was moved around can put Staines in for a spell late in each half

We beat the Northern Eagles(combo of North Sydney and Manly) by 40 points 68-28 at Brookvale Oval(Lottoland) in 2002 enjoyable evening for those of us who saw the 70-7 match.

It’s one thing to have an opinion on one player over another and talk up their skill set. But the amount people just death riding players and trying to talk down their good moments on the field and talk up their bad moments is downright pathetic.

This. We have a multiple players who could potentially play well at fullback. My biggest argument is Staines has experience in the position so why would he be bad at the subtle fullback things.

I personally think we have the best forward pack in the comp.

8. Leota - incredibly underrated and stepped up this year
9. Api/Kenny - different skill sets but the team adjusts accordingly
10. JFH - I would not swap him for any middle in the world. Best front rower in the world in my opinion, as biased as it may be
11. Kiks - lifted this year, again.
12. Capes - origin has given him massive confidence. I'd be trying to re-sign him if we can afford it.
13. Isaah - best lock in the comp, overtaken Jurbo
Our bench has been great, Tmay going great, Spencer lifted to another level, Eiso a pleasant surprise, Liam maybe a bit down but he'll improve.

Not sure if anyone else picked up on it but the first 20-25 mins of the second half we played with one traditional front rower, with Liam and Isaah playing the middle roles. I thought we might have had injuries but maybe it was Ivan trying something different with the win in the bank?

My only concern is the meters we are giving up.Even manly found it easy to get back near half way on there sets. Our defence seems to have changed to a stand and wait for the runner over last year we would rush up limiting meters

I have noticed this as well - in some sets we give up an easy 50-70 metres and I wonder how the hell did the opposition get there so easily.

Perhaps our defensive mentality is not stopping metres but instead stopping linebreaks as the prime directive?

Nrl.com has Bizza leading the league in post contact metres with 351 so far. Next closest is fish with 259 post contact metres. To’o leads the comp for tackle breaks with 30. Second is David Fifita with 24 but he still has to play.

With the extra scoring opportunities he gets on the left and just his natural progression To’o will be widely recognised as the best soon.

Edit: Bizza will very likely finish the round leading the total running metres also.

Haven't death ridden anyone. I have continually said Staines and others have done many good things.

Just not completely biased like some and try offer up realistic opinions and call the good with the bad.

Yeah I love Burton, was he perfect last night. Absolutely not, he missed a few key one on one tackles against suli which others did well to clean up.

If Staines is going to get a go at fb I certainly would not be doing it against the raiders.

For me, trying to be unbiased, he looks like he is just slowly finding his feet out there doing some good and some not so good things from the wing.

He will not be fb when Dylan gets back. Why stunt he's learning of the wing position when he is slowly progressing?

Plenty of time over off season and next year I'm sure for him to get time there when his confidence is up, he feels confident at nrl level, gains size and strength etc.

I feel this is part of our fatigue management.

I noticed in the last few games that our line speed slows down and the defensive line is waiting for the attacking team rather than playing into their attacking line. This does a few things, keeps a set defensive line, allows for multiple defenders to enter the tackle and reduces the amount of unnecessary running.

If you back your defence, you can give up the meters without too much worry.

When we need to shut down plays, we defend with strong in the middle by pushing up into the attacking line which forces the attack to go to the edges where we’re pretty comfortable.

comes to confidence and team balance.

He barely talks out there is important in defence especially

Also he plays fullback then Burton is in NSW Cup. So the gain you would get is offset by that loss

Biased? My arguments are Staines is natural fullback so could handle the general duties of the position and we have seen him on multiple occasions handle one on one tackles on larger opponents(eg. Bromwich, Sivo) which seems to be a big concern for you. He biggest issue is those dropped balls but it's not like Edwards was always safe as houses.

Just put Crichton to the wing and leave Burton at centre as Ivan did in this game. If we're being realistic both Crichton and Staines should get a go while Edwards is forced to be out.

I wouldn’t start Staines at fullback this week simply because kick returns are his biggest weakness right now, the raiders would be looking to kick early chase hard and belt him keeping us on the back foot as much as possible. I’d switch him there in attack sometimes but if I was going to start him at fullback it would be the broncos game the week after. I’d prefer to just leave him on the wing and let him keep getting experience. Critta certainly was not good enough at fb to demand selection, but he also was no where bad enough that he has to be replaced.

Maybe death riding is harsh but the fact that you wanted to talk down his defensive plays on Kenny last week says to me you are not being realistic at all. He made a couple of great reads and stuck the tackle one v one on Kenny Bromwich. It was called out in the commentary and it was called out by Johns post game.

We've got what another 4 or 5 weeks at least. Just pick a team you're comfortable with and tell him to have a crack. I can't see him being bad enough it'll lose a game. Crichton took half the game to start warming to the spot and we never looked uncomfortable.

Staines has class written all over him he will get his shot at fullback eventually, it won't hurt him learning his trade on the wing a bit, he is still just 6 games into his career he has plenty of developing to do physically and with his game. I think right now he would be awesome with our attacking plays, he has vision and speed and if you watch his pass to momo he double pumped it and held it up to fully commit the outside defender to him which is a nice bit of ball playing but I also see some potential for him to be smashed out of games at fullback defensively.

Whare hd experience at fullback at NRL level too. Why didn't you support him for fullback? Just because he (Staines) played their in his junior days, doesn't mean he will succeed at NRL level. 5 mins at fullback and some people want him named as fullback in the team of the century already. Get a grip..
