You mean when he jammed in and hit Bromwich who didn't see him coming from side on lol....

Ok, lol your right westy. He'd be better at tackling a runaway forward than Burton at the back hahahah. Just a bit different to hitting Kenny from side on not looking but we'll done..

Look at the last no try we saved. Olam just ran through him like paper.

We've been through his physicality. It's a complete myth you and Franklin want to try hard to make stick. Olam ran past Staines not through him. Also no shit Burton could take a forward who said he couldn't.

I dont think critta has been bad. I don't think any of our players have been bad this year.

For the most part everyone has been solid with some being brilliant.

What a time to be a fan when we can debate after 4 on the trot and a flogging of the gulls at lottoland

Haha hows it a complete myth? He is struggling massively for meters when we have absolutely dominated for meters in 3/4 games. He gets driven back in most tackles.

Maybe we are just being realistic and not completely one eyed...

Honestly if Burton wasn't leaving I'd say Burton is starting 17 but Ivan will leave him back up. Once Edwards is back we'll be back to the same 17 as rounds 1 - 3 and our carrying on will be for nothing.

In your opinion, after watching Burton the last 2 games....don't you think him being in the 17,somewhere, ANYWHERE.... helps us potentially go the next step this year?

Who cares about next year. So much can change between now and than

It doesn't matter what I think it matters what Ivan has shown is his preference and we know his top 17 for this year. I originally argued Burton over Luai but old friendship/Combinations got the job.

Luai bided his time and killed it every chance he got. Burton was never in with a shot at 5/8 imo after luais nrl performances.

I also don't think Ivan will make changes but imo he should if Burton continues to kill it. Would be stupid to leave him out.

I wouldn't call it stupid considering the record of 21 wins from last 22 starts but Ivan can be a bit conservative sticking with his first picks which is frustrating when someone like Burto would improve things.

If anything I think losing Tamou, Tetevano, Hetherington and even Mansour I guess has hurt us a bit. We don’t have the same punch in our forward pack (our bench especially) and while I am glad Staines got the job going forward he’s basically the opposite of Mansour as far as wingers go.

Still though we are missing Api and Edwards, and even then we are dismantling teams with plenty of improvement left in us, that’s only a good thing If you ask me. As for Chrichton yes he looks off the pace right now but let’s relax a little aye he’s young and it’s been 4 games.

Losing Tamou, Tetevano, Hetherington, and Mansour, has not hurt one iota.

Still didn't think he was a world beater and Aekins was preferred. I thought he MIGHT work there due to his physical attributes and he still might but there are people who already know the position Vs having to learn it.

Say you move Staines. Where does Burton play?

We just gave Manly their biggest ever loss at home. There really is no need to change that 17

Well he missed the 40/20 tonight. He barely seems to talk at all out there. He knocked on a simple grubber in goal under no pressure before regrounding, he made a mistake which lead to manly try, he can't be relied on to bring grubbers back because he'd get push back in goals.....

Far out, I rate the kid but why put needless pressure on him this early. Bar a few nice touches tonight he has looked a little tentative and nervous in all games so far.

But we're not talking about him instantly being the next coming of Slater and taking the position off Edwards. We're talking about giving him a go in what should be relatively cruisy conditions against the Donkeys. The club is in a unique position in having two potential long term fullbacks and a chance to look at both of them at a time when the stakes are fairly low, why wouldn't you? Even in a worse case scenario you identify areas where Staines needs to improve.

Edit, just realised we have the Raiders next week. I think the general point still stands though.

You don't think generally the backline looked good tonight? No need to move goes around because someone may or may not be better

It should take a shocker or guys coming back from injury to lose your place in the 17. Neither happened

Our left edge looked ridiculous, but that's a huge mismatch. Their weakest area, our strongest. The best play of the night came when Staines went to fb. I want to see if we can conjure up more of that and whether he handles the other aspects of the position.

That said I wouldn't have a problem with the same side. I didn't think Crichton was terrible and sticking with him would help his confidence which looks like it may be an issue.

Nice conversation to be having.

Staines setting up that try also came off a Matt Eisenhuth quick play the ball where he left two players on the ground so Manly were short in the line just quietly.

Kikau drew extra defenders wide so Crichton got most of Mansour's easy untouched/barely touched winger tries last year during overlaps. Dunno precisely how people were expecting him to have a dramatic impact on games. He's not physical palming guys off in attack type of player. Last year he did some freakish stuff in the air, good kicks, nice hands, a handful of impressive things like powering away from RTS and shoving him to the ground but the only centre he beat one on one for the entire year was Brenko Lee in the gf. He's got potential but I don't see how or why people got their hopes up that he'd suddenly transform into a different mould of player and change the way he plays in just one season. Regardless of the money he's on it was never going to happen like that.

Maybe everyone just puts too much attention on stats like tries and try assists instead of really thinking who caused the overlaps instead of the easier plant the ball down stuff/draw and pass stuff. Maybe this criticism will go away when he scores scores some easy walkover/barely touched tries again and everyone on social media will be hyping him up again about how awesome he looks.

But what I feel like about Crichton is he has good instincts for the game. When Melbourne had the momentum and had us on the ropes he swiped at the ball while making a tackle and knocked out of Munster's hand. There have been times when he intercepted the ball in critical moments. He has a good read of the game in defence, and seems to have an naturally smart footy brain or and instinctive understanding of momunmentum and when we need it turned. A pretty damn good defender for a 19 year old rookie. We invested a bit on potential but I'm pretty confident he'll get there, in general if you're defence is sweet everything else will come (think of Cleary).

Long term I'd like to see him try to think about how to beat someone a centre one on one/ draw the winger and develop a signature move he can fall back on to be a real strike player. Zac Lomax has his goose step thden flick. Bradman Best does a subtle in and away. Maybe Crichton could do a palm off/ flick pass with his long arms?

Staines 5 minutes at fullback shit on Crichtons whole game. Burtons first game at centre shit on Crichtons.

I want him to be the player we paid for. But he is headed down the Waqa Blake path so far.

Most guys at Eels want to keep Opacic and Niakuore at centre over Blake.
