Round 4 Vs Warriors

Crichton pretty much won us the first two games from fullback I hope Ivan considers him for this week. I thought he may have been auditioning for the role and had done a good job.
Edwards has done well on the wing previously if Crichton takes his spot.

The halves were not great but I think Burton was following orders to focus on his kicking, this week I would like to see him take the line on a bit.
If luai is invisible again he should probably loose his spot.

The only other changes I would like to see apart from the fullback are whare and leota dropped.
We can’t afford the mistakes of leota, the missed tackle for the Newcastle try was very soft and his drop ball was also a crucial moment. I really think he has potential but he just can’t get any consistency in his game.

As for whare any other centre would have scored a try when he was held up.
He just flopped over the line without any strength or intensity, he also came running in on Newcastle’s second try to put a big hit on instead of holding the line. He just offers nothing, he is a quality back up player these days, nothing more.

I'd go back to the role he performed so well in the first two games, if Naden is to return. Come on for the last 20 with a roving commission. He'd get tested out under the high ball starting at fullback and I'd rather someone who is known rock solid starting. Scoring a couple of tries backing up doesn't make you a fullback.

So what you're saying is, you DO understand what all the angst is about, but you don't agree with it.

There's no need to inject some kind of false statement to make yourself seem superior to others who have a more bleak outlook. That's just silly, and quite frankly, below the standard you usually post at.

I think we as fans are prone to set the bar too high sometimes and the team is still lacking quality in a couple of positions. We were somewhat fortunate to get the two points against the Dragons and against Knights well there’s probably not much more to be said other than getting the 1 point could be a bonus in the long run. Certainly not my intention to paint myself as ‘superior’ rather simply stating I don’t think we are as good as some seem to think and on that basis there is likely to be further disappoints ahead. We are sitting 5 points and but for some good fortune and a terrific 2nd half against the Roosters we could be sitting on zero.

Best to get tested by the warriors than plenty of other teams, but I get your point.
The one thing he has shown though is a very good ability under the high ball, positioning for defence would be the main concern.

There's the Kilkenny I know :)

I understand your take on it, most definitely. In my opinion I think the talent is definitely there, but for some reason or another, it either isn't being taken advantage of, or used ineffectively. I also think the players effort in some parts of the game needs to be addressed. That try being let in at the end of the first half was diabolical.

It’s definitely an attitude thing ( and maybe a little bit of a coaching thing). We have X factor players in Crichton and Kik’s , we have aggressive forwards in fish and Martin, we have good young halves with a big future, we have a great hooker and IMO we have reasonable depth.
Tweak the game plan and a couple of positions and we are top 4, but only if the players believe they are top 4, which at the moment I don’t think they do.

Naden shall we say was a little underdone last week. He didn't quite come back from the layoff in tip top shape.
Do you think he will be back this week .Nadin in Crichton to fullback .We can’t carry Atkins any more

Just catching a ball does not make you one either .Has negative contact meters when returning the ball from a kick

At this stage, he could sneak onto the bench. We have 1 or 2 carrying a niggle, that may change what Ivan wanted to do earlier in the week.
I think he will be back very soon regardless.

The forward who is under pressure is Moses Leota. He has too many mistakes/penalties in his game. I respect where he has come from and how he got to first grade but in my humble opinion he is behind both Leniu and Hetherington. Hetherington may give away a few penalties but he is a s hard as and a far better option this week in my opinion.

Trent Barrett is employed as the attacking coach. If he was picking the side would Aekens and Whare get a run possibly not. BUT no doubt Lauai and Burton need to run the ball much more. Based on last weeks effort May is probably the best option( when available ) at 6.

I said the same about May.

It will probably take 3-4 weeks before we are at our best due to such a long break. Hopefully we do enough in that time to get a few more wins

Think Aekins is getting unwarranted stick tbh. He ain’t a world beater but for a stop gap he’s solid as. His positioning & ability under the high ball has been terrific & while not flashy, its probably the main area where most back up fullbacks struggle & cost their team.

Burton showed as little in attack as he did last week & got the ball every other play.

As for dropping Leota. Get outta here.

Agree Aekins was ok he was faced with a highly organised and motivated kick chase and was probably under orders no mistakes you ain’t Teddy.
Funny how May has become the go to guy after a lacklustre and over coached performance by Burton.
Lastly thinking about our forwards to paraphrase Vince Lombardi “Looking good on paper don’t mean nuthin because we don’t play the f’in game in Libraries”

Ivan always goes with safe options. Safe doesn’t win premierships, you need to take some risks.

I’m not a huge Ivan fan but we should be 3/3 without our halfback & fullback. Why take a risk when it’s not needed? Let Crichton learn his position, he’s not goin to be our full time fullback for the foreseeable future.

There’s room to at least give him some minutes at fullback. Our backs had nothing on the weekend, it would’ve made sense to me to give our most attacking guy some more room to move.
