I have never had a big opinion of Zac. I certainly think he is NRL standard and a reasonably good ( not very good) goal kicker. Goalkicking probably got him an extra $200k + a year on his very long term bonanza $$$ contract.

At the reported coin he is on he should be a lot better. Not bog slow but lacks dash. Good front on tackler but struggles against top class centres particularly laterally. ( Best, Critchon, Manu, Mitchell, Staggs only a few examples). Last night he showed Best a little room on the outside and got palmed off and left for dead for the Pongia try.
In fairness, Zac will occasionally do something very good such as a top line high catch or pass to Rava. He even made a strong break against South’s week before ( surprise). Yet, most standard NRL centres will do something extra on occasion.

Its true we all have our own opinions, fair enough. Of course, prodigious in his teens but now in his 5th NRL season Zac is what he is. Basically middle level standard centre who is a reasonably good goal kicker.

I still think Lomax would make a better fullback than centre: big body, good in the air, good front on tackler and can chime into a backline which would negate his bullshit flick pass

Blocker is just ineffective and aside from his nice long pass for the Feagai try his effort doesn't equal outcomes. There are at least three middles at the club that I'd have in front of him.

I've been critical of Lawrie for quite a long time but now Hook has realized he hasn't been earning a starting jersey and benched him I think we'll see a turnaround from him. He's only 25 so coming into his best years. Right now he's not up to taking on the comps best middle forwards, I think bench is perfect for him, keep him hungry but also run him against lesser middles like himself for a year or two. He must stay on the bench though for the rest of the year at least.

Even though he might be practising at training, I think he needs to do a lot more.

I remember when we just beat the Storm in 2020 under the watch of Mary and we only beat them because young Ryan Papenhuyzen couldn't convert tries in good kicking positions. Since then and particularly this year, because last year he was out a fair time with his head injury given to him by our Fuimaono and Hynes did a fair bit, he has kicked goals from all over the place. He is in my opinion a better kicker than Lomax at the moment and that is due to many hours a week practising.

Lomax doesn't curve his kicks and they are straight line kicks. If his aim isn't on, he misses.

Practise makes perfect.

Totally agree DD- Lomax is all about power- not subtlety and that is why he's hit and miss. A good goal kicking stroke is just like a good golf stroke- controlled. Widdop was a great goal kicker as he had a nice draw on the ball and didn't try to kick it too hard. Hynes and Pap have learned that basic lesson as well.

Was away for the weekend and only got around to watching the game last night. Nice to get a win but fair dinkum, we were lucky to play a team that is just as bog average as we are.
The Roosters will wipe the floor with us if Griffin picks the same 17 again, which I see he did…. I just don’t get it.
Bird is a great player but he is so not a 5/8. Our last play options were just as bad as against Souths. A slight improvement in the second half but we need speed and creativity.
McGuire added something in the forwards. Sua proving to be a great buy. Hunt has his flaws but he does lead by example and tries his guts out every game. He needs a complimentary 5/8 to work with. If it’s not Amone then it needs to be Sullivan. Moses Suli starting to get decent early ball and thriving. Fegai in a few games has showed more than Ramsey has in over a year.
But there’s no way the same 17 gets anywhere near the Roosters or any other decent team.

Speed is the essence and ingredient of a great team. When you watch a team like the Storm, nearly everything they do is done with precision and speed. These are essential to be in the top 4 yearly and of course having the right players and coach.

Will we achieve these things? I don't see it happening in the near future so it is very important that the club looks into it closely so that we have them sooner rather than later - it's the only way. A new coach, better players, speed merchants, defence coaches - spend a bit of moolah and reap the rewards.
