What ever happened to standing outside your man in defence
that depends on the defensive structure of the team and who they are playing.
If it's sliding that means the players (most) are around the playing area so the opposition has more defenders in front of them, when going straight up. If they, the attackers move the ball wide the defense moves in that direction, that's sliding. Marshall plays well against this type of defense as he can get around the bigger players and with his speed set up his outside players, at least he use to  Rugby always said that they played inside their man whilst league played outside.
Benched Tiger, you could also ask, what ever happened to the half passing to the 5/8 who passes to the inside centre who passes to the outside centre?
What ever happened to the lock, locking the scrums? The hooker, hooking for the ball in a scrum? The 2nd rower playing in the scrum rather than using a back there? the list goes on.
