I think we have a good record against them in the gong.
5 or 6 to 1 in our favour.
But as it is going to be damp ( at least that is what the weather man suggested). I agree it will be close .
Samy like we said before I think this will be close . I'm not big on stats and and teams have the wood over other teams , all that changes when teams run out on the field . One game can change all that .....

If Fafitta fires they can get on a role behind him and that makes them very dangerous.
We need Vaughan to take control of the go forward as IMO he has been a little down on last years stellar performances.
We also need to keep the line speed in the middle when the rotation starts because if we give them any easy metres and we start back peddling Moylan will have a field day chiming in from the back.
If we play to our potential we should win well but no doubt it will take a toll on us as it will be a knock em down drag em out affair for most of the game.

Looking ahead I know but its a good thing we get a 7 day turn around again before we travel to NZ because its only a 5 day before we play The Roosters on Wed 25th.....it all counts these days especially when you take in tbe travelling and the pace of the games

Sharks not the same team any longer without Maloney at 5/8 - hodgkinson in the halves is so predictable it's not funny.. Will be a tough encounter only because of their rough and tumble pack but their bench offers zero impact and just can't see them matching the intensity of Sims, JDB and Graham in defence - no chance they can match our maniacs!! On this basis we win by 8-10 points as I do see either Hunt or WIDDOP having a big game.. Lafai to wrap up DUGAN ...

Dragons steeled for WIN Stadium scrap with arch-rivals

DRAGONS coach Paul McGregor has torn up the script from his side’s round-two victory over Cronulla, expecting Friday night’s return clash in Wollongong to be a different beast.

He’s not planning on being 14-0 down for starters, but the Sharks line-up the Dragons face on Friday will have a very different look to it despite the sides having met just three weeks ago.

A combination of form and injury troubles has seen Sharks coach Shane Flanagan struggle to settle on solid spine in a 2-3 start to the season. Friday’s derby will see more changes with the return from injury former Dragon Josh Dugan in the centres.

Dugan played at fullback in round two with Matt Moylan at five-eighth, though Moylan switched back to his customary fullback role in last week’s loss to the Roosters. His performance caught the eye of McGregor despite the heavy defeat.

“Moylan played fullback last week and he played quite well so we had a bit of a look at him and what he did,” McGregor said.

They’ve had some distractions and changes in their back-line. I think they’ve had eight in the first five rounds, some of that’s out of necessity or finding the right balance.

“As a coach you put a player where he’s the best fit for the football team. Josh played centre for me in 2014 and again last year because it was the best fit for our footy team at the time. The Sharks obviously feel the best fit for Josh is right centre.

“Hodko’s [Trent Hodkinson] an experienced player there on the left edge, they’ve brought in a new winger in [Edrick] Lee so they’ve made a few changes but it’s really about focusing on us and what we need to do.”

The Dragons will be gunning for a sixth straight win on home soil but, with only four points separating the fierce rivals across their last three meetings, McGregor said his side will need to be up for a scrap.

“There’s no doubt when the two sides come together it’s physical. It’s always going to be that,” he said.

“Cronulla are a quality side right across the board. They’ve finished fifth twice in the last three years and they’ve won a premiership.

‘”They play with a lot of passion, a lot of resilience and they’re very physical so we’ve got to make sure when our character’s tested where up for it. It’s won in a few small areas because they’re always close contests.

“You know what’s coming and they’ll know what’s coming, we’ll meet in the middle and see who comes out the other side.”

My tip is that it will be a tough day at the office for the boys. The start will be crucial.

The sharks recent home defeat will still be fresh in their minds. All their talk this week will be about seeking redemption for that loss.

IMO if we are even a fraction off they could pull our pants down. I feel Moylan is getting better, Duges (back from injury) and Holmes yet fire and Hodkinson could all be wanting to make a statement and could be very dangerous.

The start will be crucial . If we can early points I’m confident we will go on with it. Dragons by 10.

Hodkinson, while ploddy, gives them a kicking game that they really lacked previously. A few losses at home will be burning the Sharks, and Fifita will probably be looking to make a statement against our pack.

So wait, U20s is now Jersey Flegg?
So what was Jersey Flegg last year?

I'm so confused.

Tough game tonight. One thing I’ve noticed in the derby is the team in better form and the favourite usually ends up on the wrong end of the scoreboard.

Hopefully we can change that tonight. Given it’s a derby the boys won’t need any extra motivation. Great chance to solidify our position at the top, especially while the other teams continue to beat each other.

If we get early control I believe we win. If sharks have the early control it could be a very gritty affair similar to the first game against them.
