I’m not criticising his play in this game, or his potential. I’m saying his abilities are lost on a team that’s 2 from 7. We brought in Maloney in part to help us go deep in the finals, that’s not going happen.

Yep. Building towards 2020 should be the aim now. If it happens to lead to scrap into the 8 so be it.

Top 4 would take winning 14 from 17 virtually impossible. Hence so would winning the comp

All the comments on here about our attack are spot on. Our attack sucks and has done for the last few years, improving when Maloney arrived, but still not good enough to win a premiership. In attack we are a bludgeon, we have no rapier thrust.

We now have two reasonably quick players in Aekin and Blake, but our wingers are slow and clumsy. DWZ is slow too. It is why we are 3rd from bottom in the NRL for tackle breaks. The Storm are 1st and their wingers hit the line with speed and footwork. Our wingers hit the line like slightly faster props and try and wrestle their way through.

I admire their guts and work ethic but the balance of the team isn't right. It is all about brute strength in the wrong areas. We need some speed and agility. Yesterday, Maloney had more tackle breaks than our wingers and he is playing through the middle and weighs slightly more than the ink on this full stop. Even in his 30's he is faster and more agile than our carthorses in the backline.

I'm firmly in Daz's and Herberts camp that Cleary doesn't have the vision to be an elite half, but to be fair it would help if he had some speedy backs to give the ball to who can create space and make breaks.

I have expressed my concerns for a number of seasons now our outside backs were an issue lacking in pace, size and power. It will continue to be a problem for us. If Cleary was playing half for the Roosters, Storm and one or two other sides with better outside backs he would certainly look a more complete half.

Improbable yes, impossible no.
Where’s there’s life, there’s hope!

Just hopefully no more Klein and Cummins!

No-one charged over the Burgess non-crusher. We don't even need Annesley this time. The penalty was incorrect.

Katoa gets a grade 1 Dangerous Contact for his knees effort on Gagai. 75 points, no games. It amounts to a warning. Not a lot in it. We're lucky it wasn't an 8 pointer really given the way the game went.

Yes we were unlucky last night and we are starting to play better but we cant keep butchering games.Whats disappionting is we are losing our home games got beat by parra lost to storm lost to souths and only beat tigers by 1 pt.At least under griffin we won those home games.Winning is everything there are teams out there with worst rosters who can still jag wins we are a dumb side at times in terms of choices penalties missed tackles mistakes. The balance of the team is almost there just need 2 players gone mansour katoa and we are there.

3/4 of the Fox guys thought worthy of a penalty. What did other neutrals think? No doubt milked but you contact the neck then it happens

Just saw some interesting stats posted on twitter. We have lost 21 of 28 games refereed by Klein, including our last 8 in a row.

Three of our 5 losses this year were with Klein, and one with Cummins. These are the refs we do poorly under.

Yes, it seems consistently to be those two who we struggle with.

I haven’t looked at the statistics but I have a feeling we do reasonably well under Perenara and Cecchin?

It isn't just them though

Our record in QLD is shocking- we play there twice still.

Same with beating Souths and Sharks recently. Still play both again

Play Roosters twice.

Throw in injuries. Games with the refs mentioned above.

11 from 17 to make the 8 maybe. The 13 or 14 more for the top 4 almost impossible

Combined win/loss ratio between single and dual referee systems:

Klein 49.61%
Perenara - 48.78%
Cummins - 47.7%

Prior to the dual referee system:

Cummins - 34.88%
Klein - 25.93%
Perenara - 52%

I wouldn’t say the combined stats are damning but they don’t favour us at the same time

We need to be discipled in our general play in not giving away penalties. Tim Grant had a write up in how he wants to play his 200th 1st grade game with Penrith, then rewards the team by giving away a pen after a good defensive effort only to see Souths go on and score.

Then today we hear from Nathan Cleary that he admitted that it was his fault that he let in that try, to which I disagree, that was on Grant. The sooner the Panthers start taking onus on those who give away the penalties, the sooner the penalties and the dumb plays will stop.

Alot of them look for highlight reels instead of the basics. Penalties are all part of that
