Round 8 vs Sharks

Hard to find reasons for optimism.

We created plenty of chances, just haven't been finishing them. I suppose that's an experience and familiarity thing, so another week together and another first grade game for the inexperienced players and maybe we'll see improvement there.

Lots of offloads nullified our biggest weakness, our lack of go forward in the middle, hopefully we can do that again.

Defence was ok before Yeo got binned, hopefully it will go ok for 80mins.

Segs, if fit, I doubt could possibly play that bad again. Fair few players shouldn't play as bad again.

Maybe the Sharks are due for a weak performance and a loss, doubt it though after sucking for so long they'll probably be riding high and hungry to keep it going.

Sneaky tip around that Jamie Soward is pushing hard to play for @PenrithPanthers on Sunday #nrl - only seems relatively quiet so I don't think it'll happen. Ivan I am sure will look to rest him but i wouldn't be protesting it.

To bag the coach who last year won coach of the year,

Kite also won player of the GF awhile back. Doesn't make him immuned from bagging.

The fact pretty much everyone seems immuned from dropping is concerning. The fact Plum is playing lock with how much talent the backrow has. While the props under perform is disappointing.

Aside from someone returning from injury no one leaves the side regardless of the result.

I am sure if you go back to some threads from 2011 there was still ppl saying. We will come good. Our history shows we have only twice made the finals in back to back seasons twice. So there's prior form in disappointment there.

1989-1990
1990-1991
2003-2004

Thats 3 times, not counting 1988 which was a play-off for 5th place. It would be nice if it were more, but it makes the good seasons more enjoyable if they don't happen as often.

I would much prefer Rennings. Poor decision IMO.

That is a NSW cup line up, we haven't had all that much worse in the last few years.

Edit: I don't really think we were found out in defence last week, and Simmons isn't going to be more lethal in attack than Jennings.

I am wondering if Simmons will actually play on the wing for a couple of John's cross fielders.

Granted we have an abnormal amount of injuries but playing players out of position didnt work last year when we tried playing Whare on the wing and Yeo at centre v Warriors, we got carved up on that side. Playing Whare at fullback the year before for an extended period even though after one game it was proven he wasnt a fullback. Cleary is a good coach most of the time but the remainder makes decisions that somewhat resemble Matt Elliott's Purtell 2nd row choice in a final series.

A backline of Gennings, Blake, Rennings and DWZ is what we are probably looking at or have planned in 2017 may aswell just get the ball rolling now, don't get me wrong, I like Simmons, has done well for us for a few years now but if Cleary plays him at centre he is going to get absolutely carved up, he is too slow laterally, If Cleary cant see that he should just resign now and let Garth Brennan take over.

The Sharks backline is garbage. They could not carve up the Woy Woy Over 60's Reserve Grade Netball side. It is their forwards we must fear. Especially is the ground is heavy which it must be after today's downpour.

I went to the NSW Cup game this afternoon and if anyone was in any doubt about how dire our injury situation is you would understand after watching today,

After being down 10-0 nil in the first 20 they clawed there way back to be level at half time. It was hugely gutsy as the Mounties had 65% of the possession.

Scored early in the second half through a fortunate try and thereafter held on for great win.

Seriously there were so many players playing out of position to get the job done it was amazing.

16=10 win.

Dean Whare must be playing tomorrow as Robert Jennings played today.

Robert Jennings could be out for a while after suffering a facial injury in scoring our second try. Seeing him come off at the end of the game he had a huge egg under his left eye so could be a fracture there unfortunately.
