Round 8 vs Tigers

Their right side attack has been pretty potent. Crichton is going to be tested, hopefully he fares better than the Parra game.

Their right side attack can be a handful. Nofa has been in great form. BJ is hot and cold (hope the cold version shows up) and Lucy is dangerous on the edges.

Tigers dont worry me at all the only guy who can stop us at the moment is the man in the middle and all the 6 again calls going against us.

We can no longer afford the luxury of a specialist half getting splinters for 80 minutes.

My feeling on those is that refs are trying to engineer even contests, so the teams getting belted up the middle get the help.

Why not though? Our forward rotation is strong enough as is, Api seems to be coping with the 80 & there's no set rule that you have to play the whole 17.

Yep... The refs are the only ones who can be blamed if we lose... Not the players, or coaches or anyone else, it's all on the refs if we don't win every game left...

I reckon the most burning issue is that we’re not driving home our advantage in the last 10 mins of the first half and last 20 of the second. We are consistently poised to stick the knife in but can’t put sides away. I think we need to use that bench spot to help us when the going is good to exploit exhausted defenders. Basically exactly what Crichton did off the bench. Maybe it’s Leniu or maybe it is Burton/May in a floating lock role. Either way Cleary needs to use an interchange to go in for the kill.

No reason Burton can't do it. Ivan must be using it like that for some reason

The issue is how Ivan uses the bench, not who’s on it. If you go back and look at past games when Burton wasn’t on the bench, it wasn’t unusual at all for 1 of the 4 players to get hardly any minutes.

In round 3 Cleary played Kenny for only 14 mins

in round 4 where we won easily, Kenny only got 10 mins

8 changes

Tamou on and off a game. 2 changes
JFH on and off 2 changes
Kikau off and on 2 changes
Martin off..

leaves one change left... don’t want to go to early and have an injury and no change.

That is why you get teams with a benchie getting very limited time

Outside of loaning players there is only one other option: Rest players.

That means guys like Cleary or Luai will have to miss a game to allow Burton game time. Same with our middle forwards to give Leinu some game time. The only players we can't rest are Yeo/Kikau until Capewell returns. And probably Korisau unless our position in the top 4/8 is sealed later in the year.

I look back at our past few victories and I don't see how Burton gets on the field more. I even thought it was a mistake that he replaced Luai in the Eels match.

Mansour was rested. Many more to come guys will get rested. Most in the squad will get 5 games atleast

Think I saw some reports about Canterbury Cup resuming, does anyone know if that’s the case?

Otherwise the teams need to organise full on trials for the outer squad members. (I know they’ve played some 9’s)

Mansour was rested for a reason, though. He had a slight leg injury. Not sure we’re going to see fully fit players rested, unless it’s clear we’re in the top 4.

Training from 1 July and resumption of the competition from 18 July. I believe it is the same for Ron Massey & other lesser competitions.
