He's ranked first in tries. Proves what point exactly? But hey I'm glad he's ranked 1st in something lol

I don't need to add much more than what pervy and RABK have already said.

Bennett, the best current NRL coach seems satisfied with his performances so far this year. How bout you ask him how much baring your stats have champ

He has no other choice but to be satisfied with his performance. Just on Bennett...has he endorsed Mullen for the NSW 5/8 position for the SOO? The way he endorsed Bedsy for the 9 jumper? Just out of curiousity.

Yosh, what story does it tell us then?

Stats don't tell you about last ditch try saving tackles, it doesn't tell you that he was 3rd man in on every tackle he made, it doesn't show how many decoy runs a player made, it doesn't tell you if the player scored a try after he was set up by some brilliant lead up work OR had to beat 28 players and carry 5 of them on his back over the line.

Stats show quantity. NOT quality.

I'm a huge stat fan. I love players who get the hands on the ball alot (touches in a game, passes in a game, runs, dummy half runs etc) and stats show this. HOWEVER, the game isn't always about the player with the ball. Slater is an amazing freak of a player but alot of his game is leadership from the back. What stat is there to show that?

Joey in 1997, with 0.385 seconds left on the clock, ran to the blind side and set up Darren Albert for the greatest try in NRL history. All he got was '+1' in the try assist column.

I hope I have made my point:crazy:

yes, he has actually. in one of our post match press conferences (which i will find for you online shortly) he was asked about Mullen in origin, and he says (and i'm paraphrasing) "yes, as a 5/8th, he's not a halfback".

Yosh is right. Mullen was a victim of a mediocre system. He will improve under Bennett and at 24 is timing it just right. If Carney is injured he will be next picked for origin.

They are already f###ed Yosh. One of the greatest sides of all time is rather hard to beat when they have the best players in the world in all the key positions. I think Cronk will make them even tougher to beat than Lockyer did. Locky was more of a passenger in his latter years. His brilliance popped up when needed. Given how brilliant a side he led he had that luxury.

Hmm, I"m trying to think of five-eighths from other clubs I'd have over Mullen....

Carney
Thurston
Marshall
Maybe Foran

That's it. So probably around the 5th best in the comp IMO. He is so far from being a problem right now. Maybe in previous years it is possible that he wasn't achieving to a level we expected, but this year he's one of the only guys doing so.

Comparing him to someone like Sutton is a bit misleading, the guy is clearly a back-rower with a 6 on his back. Have you seen him kick the ball in general play, it's hilarious. All that bloke has is run metres.

Why does he have no choice? He has some well performing halves in NSWCup he can elevate if Mullen was as useless as you like to claim

Dig some more

Interesting list.

Carney was pretty shite till he got a halfback named Robson.

Thurston is playing halfback this year? either way, no one would argue Mullen over Thurston. Thurston + Mullen though would be epic.

Marshall is a freak, but has no solid half to complete his game (sounds familiar)

Foran has a quality, organisational halfback to assist. And a forward pack that is meaner than a junkyard dog.

Mullen's abilities can put him in the elite class, he just needs a steady halves partner to let him shine.

Carney shite? Wow...

Thurston is playing five-eighth this year.

I rate Foran but he's a maybe because as you said, he is thriving in that Manly environment with DCE. I think if he was to come to a club who had a less creative half like Hornby or Gidley he would not fit the mould as well as a five-eighth like Carney or Mullen.

Adrian Davis looks so impressive in NSW cup - looks to have the full skillset. The game i watched last night he got 4 repeat sets through grubbers, was putting backrowers into holes at will, always supported line breakers and often threw the final pass for the try after a huge break was made and finally linked up with Albert Kelly very well.

Not giving up on roberts or anything but this Davis kid could compliment Mullens kicking and wide receiving running game better than any other half we have. He's a real terrier in the ruck and KNOWS that getting quick ball to the outside backs and wide running backrowers is important and KNOWS how to do it.

from what i've heard of Davis his, defence is horrible because he's absolutely tiny. I'm good mates with a bloke who has been working with Adrian the past 12-18 months or so... and he says he's smaller than him... and this dude is much, much smaller than me. he must be f**king tiny.

he will probably get absolutely monstered in first grade, because he does in NSW cup already. has all the skills in attack, though... i've never heard anyone say anything but glowing praise about his attacking prowess.

We could park him next to Scott for protection.

perhaps. i'd prefer to just have a half that can tackle.

in other news, Rusty seems to have gotten sick of being shown up with fact, critical thinking and reason (oh... and the fact that he completely blew his load too early regarding Bennett endorsing Mullo for origin). there's a surprise. better check your facts before you go off early again, champ. a simple google of "Bennett Mullen Origin" could have avoided your total embarrassment there.

Yeah Davis is pretty damn small. I would be very surprised if he made 1st grade any time soon. It'd probably feel very weird, too.
