Round three vs The Storm

Just got back from the game. What a huge effort, especially considering the injuries we sustained during the game and the fact we were missing 2 out of 4 spine players to begin with. Absolutely massive.

May at fullback had his faults but he was more than adequate as a fill in. Mid-game I prefer him rather than shifting 2 players to make Crighton or Staines FB.

Burton had a bit of a mixed night but by gosh he has a monster boot. I think with a season or two he will be a better field kicker than even Cleary (who would be tied #1 with Adam Reynolds ATM).

I still think Burton is the most talented out of the 3 halves - but Cleary/Luai is our best 7/6 combo.
A few times he passed when he should have run and visa versa - but with some more experience he will start making better decisions and will be an absolute killer. He is a big boy now and has good speed and agility for someone his size.

If Edwards is out for any real length of time I would want him to play fullback.

Geez it would be useful to have Nadan available for selection - the silly git, but I suppose team culture and cohesion is more important than selecting the best team on paper at all costs.

One thing that I have noticed last season is that we are often caught napping and losing the short kick off - and it was within an inch (or one pass) of costing us tonight. We have to sort that out and is happening to us too often - Nearly cost us against the Rooster in our home final as well.

Which leads me to my last point - conceding tries from scrum set plays. The coaching staff has to sort that out. It was the DAGGER that killed us in the GF and hurt us tonight. Why the hell did we not number up properly?

So to sum it up, an excellent win that exhibited great character - and the positive is that we did it with key players missing/injured and still have a few weaknesses to patch up.

Who is the player that the Storm supporters are blaming for breaking Eisenhuth's ribs?

Leniu hit him low in the ribs as 3rd man in when Eisenhuth was already held by two other Panthers. It was on his blindside as well - I think there is a decent chance the match review committee with review hat and charge him - meaning our forward depth will be tested.

My take after reading last 3 pages-

Was a great atmosphere at the ground.

Melbourne do what they do best and slow it down just enough to control things at their pace. It is crazy what they get away with. Was very hard for luai and Burton tonight. Melbs line speed was ridiculous. They must've gone early I reckon 50% of the time.

Munster is an absolute dog. Spencer will probably be out for 4 weeks and the weak nrl probably won't even cite Munster.

Edwards 9/10- continues to just get better and better. Was in everything for 40 non stop.

Staines- 7.5- 2 great moments, 1 to stop fox possible try and he scored a good one. He really struggles bringing the ball back and I thought it really hurt us. He got drove back most times and it really shifted momentum alot after good runs from to'o. It enabled storm to really get set. Ic needs to get him involved in different ways bringing the ball back.

Critta- 7.5- few silly mistakes but very good in defence. Great pressure kick

Momo- 7.5- pretty solid night other than try off the scrum. Wasn't entirely his fault but he got caught out.

Too- 9.5 outstanding again

Burton- 7.5 great long kicking. Looked his best when he plays direct. Fantastic defence

Luai- 7.5- incredible defence, thought he did well steering team around. Some on here have been pretty harsh. No Edwards (2nd half), cleary, api. Players went down everywhere. our forwards basically didn't get out of our own half first 40. He's not a nc type player. We're never going to get a Nathan type game. But he looked very dangerous just about every run in the 2nd half. Hasn't played hb in about 3 years and we just beat defending premiers with 14 men!

Leota- 6 few big hits and lots of tackles but not enough hard yards. Needed him to get us out of our end in first 40.

Kenny- 8.5 not flashy but almost 60 tackles. 80 minutes in a brutally fast game. What an effort. Good service again. Especially fatigued

Jfh- 8 not his most dominant performance but still a solid effort

Kiks- 7.5 did nothing wrong. Needs to run like he did last 20mins for whole game. Not just when we are behind

Caps- 9. Thought he was in everything.80mins of hard work. Great defence. Brilliant try

Yeo- 9 captain's knock. Got the boys over the advantage line when everyone else was gassed and struggling.

.May- 8 great job filling in at fb

Spencer 7.5- hope he's ok. So much impact. Need him fit

Eiso- 7.5 looked good again. Just needs to quicken up his play the balls a bit but still been impressed

Martin- 7.5 solid game. Nothing outstanding bit didn't do anything wrong.

For next week imo Burton has to be in the team. I'd play him at fb. I think ic will go Staines with Jennings on the wing though.

Very proud of all the boys Tonight. What a team effort.

There was literally nothing illegal about it. If it had been at the knees then yes. Just an unfortunate one.

I hope you are right - it just looked bad live at the ground.

Now I just have to hope his injury isn't too bad. Grubster deadset used a deliberate grappling move (I know as I train Jiu Jitsu and my brother is an advanced brown belt) designed to injure the knee. An absolute abomination of a tackle - appalling Storm tactics.

Jennings can't play
Nor Naden

NSW Cup have a bye. Which means they still have a week to serve on their suspensions

I think Luai can develop in that role after what I saw in the second half. He wasn’t perfect and we got off track a bit but we were missing Api and Edwards by the second half. I think he did pretty well overall, it’s a very different role from what he usually does. Nathan controls that middle so well and gets the ball to the spots we like to attack from you definitely notice when he is not there.

You can't have your main kicker in the 6. It takes away time you need. That is the issue with Luai in 7

Great win particularly considering we were missing 3/4 of our spine. Regardless of the win I think it was a massive mistake by Ivan to put May at fullback when Staines or Crichton could play there. Either way I am so pumped we beat those grubs!

The bench makeup had no choice really

We had a 2 man bench for most of the 2nd half.

Luai was already moved from the left.
Yeo had to play 80 so was too tired to move to the edge. As too Capewell

Moving May allowed the frontline to stay the same and he was fresher which helps for all the extra running

Rubbish. Plenty of great 5/8s have been main kickers, especially out of own end. Fitter, anasta, campese, locky. Absolute Rubbish.

Anasta wasn't very good. Locky and Fittler weren't that great at kicking. There was a reason Fittler was moved out of position in rep games
