At this point, I'm wondering if Union has any juniors at all... or are they just RL players forced to play Union at school but if given a free choice wouldn't have touched their game ;P
in Australia that would be a fair call for a bunch of NRL players considered "union juniors" i.e. they would probably have played no union games if they didn't get a scholarship at a school where that is what was played

Not sure elsewhere but its very common here for kids to play both codes. Often union at school and League at a local club. Especially the islander/kiwi kids. Largely because we havent invested in schools programs as much Id suggest.

NRL clubs have slammed the door on Peter V'landys' controversial 'code war' with rugby union.

The chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission has been keen on allowing clubs to plunder the ranks of Super Rugby franchises for players - with the extra incentive that any signings would be excluded from the salary cap.

But after discussing the idea at a meeting last week, the 17 NRL clubs decided the concept was 'unworkable'.

Some of the richer clubs were keen to explore the idea, but the less financially secure clubs believed it would put them at a greater disadvantage and voted against the proposal.
The Roosters landed one rugby star last week - talented winger Mark Nawaqanitawase - but that was more a case of the club striking back at the 15-a-side game for poaching classy outside back Joseph Suaalii.

Yet another example of clubs being given too much power and acting in self interest to the overall determinat of the game.

Isn't the piont of having an independent commission to take the power away from clubs and make decisions that would be of benefit to the game ?

Hey, let's not try and sign the worlds best Union players because it might disadvantage the Tigers lol

IDK, might be worth it depending on the individual circumstances of the clubs and the terms of the deal.

I can't see it ever happening in reality though.
Brumbies+Raiders or Rebels+Storm might be reasonable given they play in the same venue and are the only team in town of either code
In practice though one of the codes will get favourable treatment over the other. Don't know where such a partnership has been a success. I think there are a few examples in England where things didn't work out well for the union side

We'll crush Rugby League within 5 years... how's that going John? Don't come crawling back now.

Not sure why the NRL or NRL clubs would even entertain this unless it's to keep Union permanently under our thumb. We could just leave them alone and most likely either the Rebels, Force, Brumbies (maybe all three) won't exist in a decade anyway.

Imagine spending money on Union over League.

Actually scratch that, it's entirely possible.

How does this hurt the game in any way? Only the rich clubs who could afford to do this would be affected in any way.

And there's nothing that says clubs still can't sign the best Rugby talent. It just has to be counted in their cap. It was a ridiculous idea in the first place.

@The Great Dane just checking in on you mate. Are you feeling ok? You might soon have to share your favourite Canberra sporting team with Melbourne just like you have to share your second favourite Canberra sporting team with Sydney.

It's all good! Go GWS Giants and GNM Brumbies!!
