What was the attendance for the all NZ clash between hurricanes&blues?
Super Rugby don't publish crowds unless it's huge.

Looking on tele it looked pretty decent, it was a TV crowd ( everyone sitted on the opposite of the cameras and no one on the camera side )

I'd guess between 10 to 15k attendance

Faaaark how funny would it be if Rugby Australia partially paid out his contract so he could stay in the NRL

“A broke sport pays a bloke to not come there. That wouldn’t go down well with the mainstream.

“But what’s going on in rugby is that other players of that kind of ilk and there’s Jordan Petaia who’s been a Wallaby outside back for a long time.

“Those players are filthy about the whole situation that someone’s coming across to rugby earning that massive amount of money and Jordan Petaia‘s management is in talks with rugby league clubs.

“And I can tell you one club that’s interested in that they’re looking at him because they’ve got to try and sign some blokes is the Dragons.

“So those things are unsettling for the rugby hierarchy. Whether it can be done I don’t know but it’s definitely not totally out of the realms of possibility that something like that could happen then and Suaalii doesn’t go.”

Maybe broadcasting talent next.

Warriors sharks game on the TV, inside a corporate box during a super Rugby game...

Guy in the middle is the wallabies coach

Looked about 17,000 if that and 20 years ago Hurricanes used to get 30,000 plus...Super Rugby needs to go.

Always thought Jordan Petaia's would be better at Rugby League then Rugby Union and read that he had a background in Rugby League.

Petaia would be a gun in the NRL, might be hard to get though, center is one of those positions French clubs will pay 1m + for while NRL will pay 800k

Either way, that's a lot more than he'd be getting from RA

Japan as well... Ngani Laumape swapped 7 figures in France for the same with Kobe. And its fewer games and a lot less physical than Top 14 too.

yes - think getting union players to the NRL would be them wanting the challenge of playing in the NRL over pure monetary reasons

Absolutely. It wont be for the money. Even with only a couple of seasons of rugby behind him, RTS would've made more taking up the Japanese deal his manager had negotiated.

Fortunately for us, the lure of 'unfinished business' kept him here but that wont apply to Petaia so it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. The dude has game though, no doubt.

he grew up in Australia so I imagine he would have had some interest in the NRL. There is probably an amount of money you would be happy to lose out on to play for a club that you really like

Wages in rugby league are growing rapidly

they are falling or stagnant in union

by the 2027 union World Cup will be a situation where union can’t match the wages in league

Especially with the nrl expanding to 20 teams

You talking union wages globally or AU/NZ in particular?

Expect top nrl salaries to be 3 million mark pa plus bonuses etc
If it hits 3m then yea, that will certainly be hard to compete with. Especially if its all fully funded by HQ grants and underpinned by long term broadcast deals, sponsorships, US bookie deals etc.

One of the key challenges in English club rugby especially is the over dependence on private owner support. As has already happened, it exposes clubs' balance sheets to the whims of just a handful of individuals and if they fk about or decide they'd rather piss their money away elsewhere, things can unravel pretty quickly.

Bang on

the new tv deal gets done in 2027 which will be a big increase and they are increasing revenue from other sources too

the salary cap today is 12 to 12.5 million. It could’ve been 17 million but the clubs got a big chunk of the extra money
