Love the idea. Just hope clubs don’t just use it on Oceanic players. Argentina, France, South Africa, England and the rest of the UK. Could be massive for the game globally if used carefully.
In the past few year's All Blacks Ardie Savea, Caleb Clarke, Jordie Barret ( spent a week training with the Storm ) TJ Perinara ( nearly signed with Roosters ) and Shaun Steveson ( Bennett tried to sign him with Dolohins ) and England Union caption Owen Farrell have all expressed a desire to test themselves in the NRL, the problem is its a huge risk for them and the clubs, clubs aren't willing to use up a large amount of cap space on unproven players, if these guys didn't chew up cap space there are plenty of NRL clubs that could offer them as much or more than what they get in Union.

It would be a huge coupe for the NRL to get any of those players.

Some french top union players like to watch NRL games, but IMO none would be ready willing to take the plunge, RL at that level to hard for them and they are paid too well.

Some interesting targets: Ramos, Penaud, Dupont, Macalou but overpriced

Wouldn't it be interesting that as a twist of fate that the NRL starts getting the best French Union players because of the exemption...and the French league team becomes a force again because of it..

Could be a dream and a nightmare at the same time, a dream of seeing RU arrogance undermined and a nightmare they can kill RL in France when they want as revenge

Didn't want to post this in Fight Club as it's Cross Code but don't visit Fight Club anymore but ex NRL fringe player saying NFL is harder...please mods move it if you like.

insight from someone who played RL at a decently high level (u20's) and is now an elite NFL player

also hilarious in that interview, he was asked what the best player in his old sport would make, he said about a mil a year... Mailata averages more per year than an entire NRL salary cap.
4 years 64m deal, 10 mil signing bonus, 40 million guaranteed. Average yearly salary of 16m per year
Move has worked out nicely for him lol

And he's probably 12 months away from getting something in the realms of 22-25m a year

“The plan initially was incepted to encourage NRL clubs to recruit players from South Africa and Argentina as well as from the NFL.”

From Fox Sports article. Weird they’d mention those 2 countries instead of the obvious ones if there is no context behind it. Might just be the first 2 the Journalist thought of.

Yeah good for him but don't bag Rugby League when you haven't played the NRL top level.

French rugby league juniors should be counted
Yes definitely should count.

French league have some great juniors, they regularly beat England in the Under 16 and 17's but when they get older all the best talent goes to rugby because that's were the money and career opportunities are.

If France could keep thier best jnr talent they could become competitive again.
