Got my first win in an online match 28-0.

It sucks that if they are just spamming offload and it hits one of your players it's six again.

Playing online is so different than playing ai. I just defend and wait for my opponent to offload the ball to me. Happens constantly. Winning most i play though.

Online mode you just need to be patient. Defend well and you eventually frustrate the hell out of them. Then you start rolling forward and start putting on points.

Online is awesome fun, the feeling of satisfaction when you get a win even by someone conceding is great.

And even more fun is showboating when having a handy lead, crack up lol!.

I dont know guys...

the unbalanced ai is starting to wear me down... Why does it seem that the Computer can rush up in the defence but my teams AI hangs back and waits? My first reciever is always flat footed and doesnt run onto the ball, which forces me to go behind to the second reciever which usually leaves me with Soward or Nightingale taking hit ups!

Either that or I just really blow at this game... I dont usually suck this bad at games to often and it really sucks that the one game i just cannot get right is a rugby league game.

There is so much i like about it but i cant win many games on Rookie!!!

No Mattyg1, thats the issue Iam suffering at the moment. Iam playing on pro level & winning 3 out of every 5 games. The biggest issue I have is the rushing defense of the AI. Here is an example...

I got tackled a couple of meters from the opposition try line, I wanted to throw it out wide to score so I held the pass button & hit "O" PS3....the pass was intercepted & the opposition ran the length of the field & scored.

That same game I tackled a player several meters from my try line right under the posts, he passed 3 times!!!! 3 f**king times to his winger who scored...& watching the slow motion replay the final pass went straight through my wingers body?!?!? Not in front...not behind...but straight through.

Iam starting to think that an increase in level doesnt mean the AI plays better, I think the game cheats more....which equals lazy design.
When this happens the enjoyment of the game is stolen.

Okay it feels at least somewhat good to get some confirmation that sombody else see's the same unbalanced AI that I have picked up on... and your example is probably the best way to sum it up too.

And I agree I have tried playing Pro and Vetran levels and honestly it just feels like the inverse of me playing on Amateur and i spam the fend button...

Welcome BigAnt! -sorry for the whingers who don't offer constructive critisism. Do you expect there will be patching of some of these glitches? Fowards playing wing, stat reset etc. And also will there be additions -like adding your own created player in career mode? -I would love to see some more strategy options for attack other than field goal or punt kick. Be nice to mYbe have the option to go for an up the middle power charge a-thon or a sweeping back line move with your fullback chiming in. -a little dreamy sorry, but maybe rll3? Would be amazing to be able to configure where your players set themselves up for runs pre game and also who they would automatically try and mark (I'm looking at you Barbara!!)

But I am really loving the game now. Very good gameplay and offering a lot of variety in the style you want to play. I put the fiancé to bed at 11pm SAT and looked at my watch to see it was 6:30 am! I played until I was sore and still felt I have only scraped the surface in terms of the skill level needed to play this game well. My biggest problem is pushing that one pass with a less than qualified passer and turning over a cheap intercept try.

I am starting to notice the design and skill of each player in terms of how the move, pass, break tackles and shoulder charge. Keep posting tips up here. I was too slow with the cross field kick discovery, but it really opened up possibilities on attack. Anyone have a good strategy for diffusing opponents bombs? I don't think I have really mastered the timing of the jumps and positioning yet. Hard game to put down at the moment -I gotta wedding in 12 days and the fiancé sat me down yesterday for the "commitment talk :O" damn your release timing big ant!!

I dropped back to the second level (Rookie??) & after 20 minutes I was leading by 36-0. Opposition hadn't had a single set of six, they just kicked off & I scored. Thats boring & no fun, but when you work really hard to make a break & you get pulled down short only for the AI to get an intercept & run the length of the field to score a cheap try...that just cheapens the game overall.
I understand that there are certain things a design team need to do to increase the difficulty, but when its done in such a way that you feel that your playing by different rules than the AI then you start to feel cheated.
Its like the Sidhe hot potato crap...

I've started just selecting the fullback for plays 3, 4, and 5, because that is where the ai starts stepping and fending my tackles. It's kinda sucky, my AI can tackle like pros, but as soon as i try anything they just sorta stand there.

If you are passing from dummy half, double tap the button will pass a flatter pass, allowing the receiver to get to a sprint, and the defence is rarely fast enough to get an intercept. If you step from dummy half, don't cutout pass, first receiver only, and obviously on the side you rushed.

My favorite play so far is passing to left center, who runs a diagonal back in field drawing defenders, then a flick pass left to the winger, who fends off a one on one and streaks down field. Makes meters quite easily.

Am winning about about 3/4 of my games on veteran. Tried the jump to Legend, holy balls it is crazy.

Defense Tips.

Ignore the L2 button as much as possible use it sparingly and when absolutely neccessary, use compressed defense, concentrate on using the select player left and right triggers to try and anticipate where a player is going to pass to or what I do is I use manual defense and select a player about 3 wide of the ruck either side in anticipation of a pass, I sprint out to either put pressure on the ball reciever or use it like an umbrella style defense and try and force my opponent to go a different direction. Another thing you can do is select a player closer to the ruck and pull him back out of the line like a roaming cover defender and just allow the AI to take over and use the cover defender like a fullback or sweeper to clean up any missed tackles.

Watch this video It will give you a general idea how i play the game at the moment on Pro difficulty.

Pretty much how I defend. I like to select the marker and push across as well though.

I am definatly not at the point where i am giving up on this game by a long shot... me and my mate were playing it last night Aus Vs NZ and my wife was watching and i dont think i have ever seen her get into a videogame like that in a long long time...

We lost in golden point to a Benji field goal and she was devistated.

Next game NSW V QLD, we got up in a great last minute try and she was jumping up and down as i ran it in under the sticks...

She usually doesnt pay attention to games unless its Red Dead or Uncharted so to see this was awesome.

Guess i gotta give it more time (a lot more time)

played with my brother for a few hours on sat. 1st thing i noticed is they still cant get players standing on the correct side of the field - thats schoolboy stuff. you can argue it doesnt affect gameplay but it's one of the simplest things to get right and it shows a severe lack of understanding of the game of rugby league. Inglis is on the f**king left

intercepts are bullshit. it seems almost that if you try and throw more than 1 cutout pass it will be intercepted.

i've never seen so few kicks find touch. actually in the games we played none found touch. miraculously every winger and fullback got to the ball on the full

"designated" kickers often turned out to be props or wingers

side on view actually turned out to be usable. i cant play too many games from the sides cos it doesnt feel right, this one was ok.

i found the controls picky. in trying to throw cutouts i often ended up doing chip kicks...

I do need to play it more (its not my copy), and i can see several things being an improvement on previous games i'm still puzzled how they get simple things such as props being in the middle of the field correct
