At least benefit of the doubt was consistent.
On field calls are just random and come down to whatever the f**k the ref feels like doing at the time. He shouldn't be forced to make a call that needs to be conclusively disproved if he has no idea if it was a try or not.

I tend to agree. Half the time it seems the refs make a call because they have to when really they aren't sure. This makes for the bad situation we have in that the vid ref has to conclusively disprove that made up call. What's wrong with not being sure and sending it up? I'd couple that with bod to the defensive team personally.

I think taking a look at the way ESL is officiated would be a smart thing to do.

Issue penalties for players trying to 'work' or wrestle a grounded player into a position that would slow down the play the ball.

Crack down on wrestling and plan to eliminate it (Won't be done in a year or two, but can be reduced a fair bit)

Allow shoulder charges, so long as the head, neck or back doesn't come into contact with a players shoulder.

The biggest problem with having a real crackdown on wrestling is the speed of the play the ball would make it near impossible for players to consistently get back the 10m. All you would start to see is dummy half running every tackle.

The referee's job is to make a call on the fly as he sees it. The current video ref system acknowledges this. If he's clearly wrong, overturn the decision. If not, move on. What really needs to happen is that the checking of in-play calls needs to go. Sick of players lying down to get a penalty. Everything other than tries is on-field only. Get the touch judges to start doing their job again instead.

* captains call - 2 unsuccessful per half
* 5 min each way golden point during regular season however each team gets 1 comp point automatically for being drawn after 80 mins. (2pts to winner in GP 1 for loser)
* 10min each way extra time for origins and finals

Re video refs:

The onfield refs to make all calls on tries live. The coach can then press a button in the coaches box to challenge the decision, which alerts the referees.

Each team gets 2 unsuccessful try challenges per half.

the game will evolve. it will mean an end to 3 man tackles etc as well. the best defenders will be those who can make effective 1-on-1 tackles.

Make the ball at all kick-offs & restarts be only allowed to travel 20 metres on the first bounce.

At present all teams just kick to the corners forcing their opponents to run one-out or from dummy-half until they are past the half-way line. A kick at the end of the set usually is aimed at opponents corner & the one-out stuff starts all over again.

Perhaps the shorter kick-off will ensure a bit more passing earlier in the tackle count.

In the modern game the sweeping backline movements are a joy IMO. The trouble their is not enough & they rarely emanate from deep in the attacking side's own territory.

5 minute bin for repeated offences and non violent infringements.

3 ruck penalties, piss off you're gone. Professional fouls, piss of you're out.

Tell the refs to use the damn thing or piss off you're gone to centrelink..

5m defensive line, that is the only way we're going to cut out the wrestling. The big boys can't get back 10m quick enough.

How about getting rid of extra time/GP altogether? If teams can't be separated after 80 mins then, here's a thought, LET THEM SHARE THE POINTS FFS!

Few people here need to get in the time machine and revisit a few years back....no on-field decision pre-VR involvement and BoD to the attack was an unmitigated farce. An on-field decision when sending to the video is just behind the corner post rule as the best move made by the NRL of late.

If momentum of idiots sees a return to the old system, I could (barely) tolerate it with BoD to the defence instead.

GW. Here,
I'm pretty much in agreeable with the OP.
Ten minutes extra time straight out. The teams are getting good at field goals ad as a result the extra time coin toss is now to closely linked to the outcome. All teams deserve a right of reply and it will make for an exciting and intense spectacle watching a team with nothing to lose go primal on the early leaders asses.

At the very worst at least make it golden try, with any field goal being kicked contributing to the final score after ten minutes is up (provided no golden try before then).

Secondly do the captains challenge thing like in cricket.
Now refs just take it upstairs for every obvious thing as there is no incentive to not play it safe and let the video ref do they thang.

Also would like to see non head contact shoulder charges re introduced

Yeah teams shouldnt have to earn field position and win the arm wrestle of possession. How bout we just shorten the field to 50 or 60m? That way after 1 or 2 tackles youll be in attacking position. Instead of tackling, just make it that putting two hands on the opponents body forces a play the ball. Make it so players cannot kick the ball other than for kick offs, thus making these backline movements occur at least once in a set of 6. Actually make it a set of 4 or 5! Change the name of the game too, like touchball or passball or sarcastaball!

Just want to see things sped up a bit so here goes:

-No more players being put on report(leave it to the MRC), refs should only call out a player if he is to be binned

-No more captains talking to refs

-Video ref able to make a call anytime during the game. Give them control over what they watch, one look at a replay of something they are not sure of. Give them say 5 seconds to give the refs a call or otherwise don't get involved at all. This will stop the diving and waiting for channel9 to give the replay that the diver wants.

-work out a reasonable to time form a scrum, if scrum is not formed in this time penalise.

Also drop the 7 tackle rule from the 20m tap unless the ball was kicked from more than 40 out

Any dropped ball should be a knock on and turnover. Otherwise it's a strip and a penalty.

Golden try. Not golden point. No try, call it a draw.

That'll do for now.
