PRESTON TO STAY UNTIL 2006
May 05 - Preston Campbell has agreed to stay with Panthers until the end of season 2006 at which point he would like to sign with the Gold Coast if it is admitted into the NRL competition.
We are very happy that Preston has decided to extend his contract with us, Penriths General Manager for Rugby League, Michael Leary, said today.
We offered Preston one, two and three year contracts but he opted for one year because he wants to end his career where it began at the Gold Coast.
"We understand that. Obviously, if the situation changes, wed be interested in signing him for longer wed like him to end his career with us."
Preston, Dally M Player of the Year in 2001, joined Penrith from the Sharks to play under John Lang.
He was a revelation playing every minute of every match in season 2003. His partnership with Craig Gower was one reason the Panthers went all the way in 2003 and finished one game off the Grand Final in 2004.
The 28-year-old was born in Inverell and entered first grade with the Gold Coast Chargers before moving to the Sharks.
Today he is in camp with the NSW Country Origin side in Ballina getting ready for his first taste of rep footy.
