Property (partic. outside Sydney) will be ok as long as there's not an unemployment spike. If there is such a spike (and I don't think that is very likely) all bets are off......prices could drop significantly.....but that doesn't mean that blokes like Avenger have to sell at those prices.

Globally, the big game is working out which debt is going to default. It's pretty clear that about half of the outstanding international debt will never be paid. And of course......what the Chinese regulators feel like doing.

The hard part is reading the Chinese money.

When foreign investors or businesses start having troubles paying off debts for depreciating assets or start having cashflow issues, they will sell their bluechip investments (as that's what other people will buy - but for a bargain). They could well and truly start selling the Sydney properties. e.g. a Chinese investor borrows and buys shares in CHina and residential property in Sydney. The shares are tanking in CHina and he struggles with margin calls. Eventually, he is in need of cash and will sell his Sydney property. No one will buy it off him unless there is discount (i.e. lower price) so he reduces the price to sell.

The only caveat here is if the money that was used to buy the Sydney property was illegally obtained or transferred to Australia. Then I guess, the money cant be used to payoff other debts.

If unemployment starts rising and people with huge leverage loans struggle to pay off the mortgage, there could also be a fire sale of property.
