The fact that there’s no news in regards to securing Crichton and Yeo beyond 2022 is seriously shitting me.
Penrith has met with Stephen Crichton’s new manager to begin contract talks for the rookie.

The Panthers have put a three-year deal worth $1.5 million on the table for the centre who has attracted interest from the Bulldogs, according to The Daily Telegraph’s Fatima Kdouh.

It is the same deal the Panthers offered over a month ago which he was expected to sign when he switched management companies to join Sam Ayoub.

“I was committed [to Penrith], but I’m seeing what’s best for my family as well,” Crichton told Christian Nicolussi from The Sydney Morning Herald last month.

Crichton made 22 appearances and scored 17 tries this season for the Grand Finalist.

His management is expected to submit a counter offer in the coming days.

Re back up halves id just chat to Burton and if he is genuinely happy to stay id just hold onto him for the year, we are unlikely to find a better back up.

If he indicates he would rather go to the dogs early then I’d ask the dogs for wakeham and heaps of cash. Benji and Widdop are options but plenty of us have issues with them but we will struggle to do much better than that so ideally keep burto for a year and let us consider our options. Flegg and reserve grade next year will give us a better idea of what our young halves are like and if any of them could step into Burton’s role in 2022.

Cini only problem is his defence. He was a poor defender in the lower grades.

He is young enough to fix his issues. A good pre season with the big boys would help.

Whare may be on the outer but Whare was an asset to our backs this year off the field.
He helped Crichton earlier in the year after some poor reads. He helped him with where he should be with positioning during certain situations during a game. A coach can tell a player only so much but a senior player helps get you to that next level at times. He also helped Naden last year and this year.
Always offers advice and happy to see a young player do well.

If Cini came back Whare would be a good mentor for him.

That's a good way in putting things. If Burton gets re-leased this year, who will be the back up half(s)?

For a one off game or two it’d be fine, remember that’s how they’ve lined up before. Luai at 7 and May at 6.

I’m not saying we don’t need another backup half if Burton & Laurie leave, but I’d bet Cleary would go with Luai at 7 before a reserve grader.

1 game yes but if an injury hits? Better to have the option just incase.

I was critical this year when we went into the finals with 27 guys to not replacing the guys who left mid season.

Another centre option for late in the year would of been handy. Maybe May still plays but atleast there would of been options.

So same here. Take Cogger who is going to ESL. That sort of player to just sit in the squad just incase

Which is unlikely, or are they actively looking in recruiting for this year?

They are actively looking for a centre and a forward.

What happens with Laurie and Burton and who re-signs will have some impact on that. The impression I get Laurie will go if a deal can be struck. Burton probably no at this stage.

They want an experienced centre but if they don't get what they want it will be for 2022.

So if Cini, for example, signs will that mean that Laurie will be re-leased early? What forwards are they looking at? Sorry for the questions.

I'm so happy that Whare is fulfilling this role. His help must be invaluable.

I'm personally (miffed) I know that others aren't that Sauce appears to have thrown away a similar opportunity.

(I know many didn't agree with how and why Sauce was told and I understand that)

That’s why I said we still need another backup. I was just making a point about the first option.
