What about the two wooden spoon squads ? Did they build them too ?

Is a good or bad squad built in just a year or two? From what I see, it takes years of work to build a strong squad from a weak one (as Phil Gould said, it would be easier to start from scratch), and years of neglect to turn a strong squad into a shit one.

I have zero connection to 3P, though I believed we needed to improve our recruitment/retention structure back when 3P brought in Kearney, Arthur and Nolan.

I also think it's f**king childish that all you idiots are so keen to find a couple of scapegoats and blame them for everything without giving any credit. Useless, small minded merkins you are.

I still think we have average players who are overachieving under a good coach .

I agree we have an average squad, and I think we'll finish around the middle of the table. But our best players are generally young, meaning they will only get better. This squad will be very strong over the next couple of years, and hopefully it won't drop off again because of neglect in junior recruitment/retention.

3 straight years of terrible results which really other than some dumb luck should've been 3 straight spoons . And luckily now we've found two coaches in Holbrook and Arthur who've got our crop of average footballers playing above their weight and all of a sudden Ricky , Nolan and 3P are champion team assemblers and Holbrook and BA are the Stephen Bradburys of coaching.

Our Under 20's is hardly average. Two of our players were in the Australian Schoolboys for League last year, Joey Lussick, and Nathan Davis and the third that was picked looks to be promoted after finishing with the SG Ball team. Tepai Moeroa is a Australian Schoolboy Union player and was selected in League's team as well. ZDC is both a NSW-representative and N.Z representative from last year. Kelepi Tanginoa has played a few first grade games. John Folau was picked as 18th-man in QLD's under 20's team last year. Josh Aloiai is a New Zealand international. Jordan Muna was a starter in Penrith's SG Ball runners up team last year. I'd say that the only player that Holbrook has improved is Ryan Matterson, and he's been playing some good footy. Holbrook has had a quality team assembled for him and in terms of coaching ability he hasn't had to do any of that and has been able to focus on building set-plays and working on defence, which a lot of NYC coaches don't get to do.

Yeah, Hayne missing 21 games in two years was pretty lucky. So was Sandow's gambling problem.

We were real lucky hey?

Everyone deserves credit for this. Just like everyone deserves blame for the state of the club in 2011.

When you are running at the bottom you can sign more players.More are being released and so more will be signed than at a strong club. We where running badly across all grades. So more opportunity to sign guys.

Nolan has done a god job-But he also signed M.Ryan and Harrisson under his guard. So he is not perfect. Not sure you can give him credit for guys like Peats,Norman as Ricky may of asked for them and we have all seen them play.

I think it goes in cycles. You cant say at the top forever and you usually dont stay at the bottom forever either.

Manly last missed the finals in 2004. Their sustained success is all off the back of junior recruitment and retention.

It might go in cycles but those cycles certainly aren't equal. Do you reckon every club has has equal success and failure over the past five, ten, twenty years?

We'll come fourth this year. Especially now that we've got a reliable five-eight. Sandow went well last time he played with a talented and composed five-eight.

You have too look at it over 1000 years. A team with a few star can stay at the top for usualy 7 yrs.Same as NFL .

So even over a space of 50yrs it is not a long enough amount of time to realy base judgement.

Just like global warming .

I'm going to get one of my relatives to bump this thread in 3014.
