I doubt any cub will be looking at Matterson to play first grade next year. More likely he will be signed on potential, probably on an initial second tier contract, possibly back-ended to low top 25 for the second year (2016).

Since he left the Roosters, Stuart has been stuck at unattractive clubs. That hurts his ability to recruit.

Of course, if he was a better coach he would be at better clubs.

If you look at the sides doing well in 2014, they have lot of energy and play very straight.

Benji is old and crabs across the field.

His loss of pace means that he is of no value to teams unless at a heavily discounted rate.

when have $$ ever been a problem for them?

This is actually an interesting quote. I can see Benji doing pretty well down there, as a 'foil' for the other big 3. There obviously interested. Outside of the Storm or the Warriors I cannot see anyone else really needing him.

Cowboys need a 7

Dogs arguably could use him at fullback

Storm would have him as a six

Wonder if anyone would use him as a hooker?
Souths potentially? Cowboys?

He's past it, nowhere near the player he was and unable to defend in the front line. Plus he'd want overs.

So plenty of clubs have announced re-signings so far this year:

Brisbane: Hodges, Parker
Canberra: Edwards, Fensom, Tilse
Lakemba: Graham, Lafai, Mbye, Morris
Cronulla: Graham
Gold Coast: Douglas, Gordon, James
Manly: None
Melbourne: Bromwich, Griffin, Munster, Smith
New Zealand: Abbey, Bhana, Gubb, Johnson, Kata, Lilyman, Lisone, Lousi, Mannering, Palavi
Newcastle: Leilua, Mullen, Roberts
North Queensland: None
Parramatta: Ma'u
Penrith: Whare
Souths: None
St George: de Belin, Frizell, Stockwell
Easts: Evans
Wests: Cherrington, Hoeter, Nofoaluma, Woods

Obviously some clubs have re-signed more than others. I'd say some big names at each of the clubs with few re-signings (so far) are holding up the rest of the process, as is probably happening with us and Tim Mannah. Expect Manly to re-sign a few young blokes now that Glenn Stewart is confirmed as leaving.

We would probably have a Plan A and Plan B dependant on whether or not Tim Mannah re-signs for the amount we've valued him at. But we need to get a wriggle on, because we have three other members of the top 17 off contract, plus at least a couple of the high performing NYC squad.

It's also likely that we have already re-signed a few of the junior players (including current SG Ball team members) but are saving them for a retention announcement, like the Warriors were forced to do early.

I want Benji to sign up with the Eels as our Benji Mascot, a bopping, twisting, turning, curving, sidestepping Benji going up and down and around and around our sidelines in tandem with our gorgeous cheer leaders.

I reckon Benji will only get an NRL gig at the Storm, or maybe the Sharks next year (if Robson calls it quits). He may as well throw himself back into media full-time instead, if he's not prepared to play in England for the cash.

Next year he will be able to sign for match payments and only have his base contract count against the cap.

Just like when we signed Israel Folau. lol
