really hope manly re-sign both watmough and matai

If they're both on huge amounts for next year, extending them can flatten that out, leaving space in next year's cap to front load extensions for more in-demand players like Foran and DCE.

I'd say older players like Warmough and Matai are more concerned about their final career contract in total than just how much they will get next year. They're likely to take a cut next year if it means a guaranteed multi year contract.

They probably suffer from a Price, Cronin retirement then followed by ELla, Kenny, Sterlo, Grothe retirement

perfect sense if the hadn't already budgeted for clearing that cap space and it was directly linked to the cap space required to keep dce, moving glenn stewart without even making an offer indicated that they had done that

Daily Telegraph have complied a list of the best 21 players 21 and under in the game with the help of "scouts, coaches and fox sports analysts" Moeroa and Pauli are on there.

http://dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/...er-the-age-of-21/story-fni3fbgz-1227000796007

I like how they also decided to add Jack Wighton, who is actually 22 and they have clearly identified him as that age in the article.

If its the best players under 21 then why can't they leave it as that? People will say 'oh its not a big deal' 'he's only just over 21' etc but surely they could find another kid who is actually still 21, just makes a mockery out of the article. I'm sure Wighton has appeared in the articles in the past where he was actually the correct age.

EDIT- After checking on Wikipedia, Wighton is actually only 21. Bad typo in the article though.

I've been told (from the horses mouth) that they CANNOT flatten it out.

It's been illegal to renegotiate currently existing deals in order to change the amounts since the Bulldogs operate half a mill over the salary cap (but legally) through the Patten/ Ryan trick.

My information is old, and Schu is no longer the boss, so who knows if they have changed these regulations? But I can't see why they would allow an old exploit to sneak back in.

Brooks is great and all, but is he really better than Milford or Tuivasa Scheck??

I also reckon, if you were to offer me a trade of Dave Klemmer for Junior Paulo, I would also say 'no'. Could just be me, but Jr Paulo looks for all the world like a big time star as a prop in the next year or 2.
Klemmer looks like a slightly better version of Darcy Lussick...

I'm sure you can replace a current contract with an extension though.

I thought the same.

You have to honour amounts that have been quoted in contracts.

timmy pulls off 100+ EVERY match no questions asked.

they're poles apart

I meant that he's solid and reliable like Tim. He has soft hands too.

As for meters gained, Tim is a big minutes prop and Dave mostly plays lock or 2nd row from the bench.

Is that legislated somewhere? Or have you heard that somewhere? I'm only asking because the NRL aren't in the business of allowing restructures so that a team can effectively operate over the cap.

Patten and Ryan had their deals extended (I think it was in 2008?) so that they were paid less per season, and more in the upfront season. It is the opposite of what you are suggesting Manly could do with Watmough et al, but the net effect is the same. The point in doing it would be to create cap space where it previously wasn't.

I wonder though, if they allowed Watmough to 'opt out', and then re-signed him for less per year (over a longer term), would that be legal? It probably fits within their current laws... Effectively the same result as an extension, but because a player was granted a release, it becomes do-able.

Dave Gower is a brilliant 'squad player'. No surprise the Storm are after him. Never gets much attention, but does the little things right on the paddock.

Hopefully we keep him (on low coin).

Considering how good gower is going, I wish we picked up prior. Arthur could have worked miracles with him. Similar player to gower but younger and a bit more talented. Two players like gower is what our pack needs

Don't worry, he'll stay with us.

This year he made what he hoped to be final move to Parramatta.

"Brad [coach Brad Arthur] knew my game from Manly and gave me a couple things to improve my game so I can feature in the 17 every week and I have been working hard on those to improve my game," said Gower, who has played 23 NRL games in five years, with four clubs.

"I try to play with effort, enthusiasm and energy in everything I do and hopefully I can get more opportunities to play in the NRL.

"There is a great bunch of blokes here and we are all working towards the same goal and that's something I want to b a part of."

Would need to be a must (being on low coin). With a fully healthy squad he is No.19 on the basis that Sefa Paulo is not re-signed. It looks like 2015 is set without taking into equation form at the time:

Mannah, Peats, Jnr, Ma'u, Moeroa, Pauli, Lussick, Mossop, Tanginoa, Matterson (17? middle half?)

Then Edwards, then Gower

I am a big fan of junior. He has some footwork and an ability to offload. I rarely seem him slack off either.

He is of the mould of an Artie Beetson once he gets more experience and becomes the leader in the pack. He will overtake Mannah in a year or two.
