I think we have re-signed the wrong option.
Not if he was being offered huge overs, would you break the bank for just a handy first grade winger??? We probably got Toutai and Goodall for the money Sio is being paid in the Superleague. Sio is a good first grader but will never be rep quality, i think Goodall has the potential to be a rep quality winger.

We have been let down in the past by letting go players who are first grade players already and trying to rely on youngsters coming through who aren't necessarily ready. The wing is probably the 'safest' spot to experiment with but it's still a gamble.

Sio later Kenny....

The mistake with Ken Sio was leaving it until this year to re-sign.If we did it last year he would of been a cheap option. Now he is probably not good value and not worth keeping.

Prioritising our booming backrowers is a must. Wingers are cheap recruits when needed.

Shame for sio because hes a good bloke and a good team player

Would have liked to keep Sio, but do agree it is better to spend funds on other positions. Always cheap wingers running around, just look at some of the wingers that have played with top 4 sides over the last decade.

I know he was always injured with is and had a bit of a bad attitude but Jacob Gagan is starting to realise his potential.

Manly also let him go, if he does go on to be a top quality first grader out will come out the old "Another star Parra have let go" and Manly won't be even mentioned.

Couldn't agree more re: our backrowers. I think Arthur has seen this and it could be the reason why Kelepi has been turned into a prop. Mau, Edwards, Tepai appear to be the current pecking order with Gower at 13.

If we'd re-signed him last year he would be on more this year, meaning we wouldn't currently have Gower or De Gois - neither of whom is replaceable right now.

Sio's a solid first grade winger, but he is just a winger.

I'm not sold on Goodall yet, and I don't think Toutai will be as good as people are hoping he will be. He is a centre after all.
Sio is quality, I'd rather spend the extra 50-100k on a player I know can do a job, rather then save that much in the hope 1 or 2 will be able to.

Are you guys forgetting about our World Cup winger?
He trained with the NRL squad on Wednesday. Might be in BA's plans for 2015 debut.

This time last year Sio couldn't do the job either, and he was nearly 23 and had played less than two full seasons in first grade.

The coaching staff know who is likely to make it - they continually test these guys from the moment they join the club. They know all their strengths and weaknesses - physical, mental and technical. They also have a good idea how much they're able to improve.

Under the cap it's a numbers game - cost, benefit, risk. The club has done a great job with recruitment and retention. I would have been more concerned if we'd kept Tonga and Sio. Looking forward to a few more off contract players leaving. We need to trust the 'academy'.
