This time last year Sio couldn't do the job either, and he was nearly 23 and had played less than two full seasons in first grade.

The coaching staff know who is likely to make it - they continually test these guys from the moment they join the club. They know all their strengths and weaknesses - physical, mental and technical. They also have a good idea how much they're able to improve.

Under the cap it's a numbers game - cost, benefit, risk. The club has done a great job with recruitment and retention. I would have been more concerned if we'd kept Tonga and Sio. Looking forward to a few more off contract players leaving. We need to trust the 'academy'.

He's not even a good winger. His finishing skills bring him up to average nrl winger but you need better than average to be a force.

And yes he may be out most consistent winger in the club but that doesn't make him anything special by comparison to the rest of the comp.

It's an area we've been losing ground, especial since semi has tapered off so dramatically.

It probably isnt that simple.

What if both were offered $80k for next year?
Sio thinks he can get more, Vai thinks it is a good deal. But neither one might be seen as the starter. They might be looking at Goodall and thinking he is the starter, and so don't want to overpay for a backup (we did that 2-3 years ago and look how weak our squad was!).

Vai can backup 2 spots, Sio just wing. It is a no-brainer who you sign to play for Wenty when one guy will take 80 and the other wants 150+

At a glance it lacks experience and class. Either our cap is worse than we though or the coaching staff have big opinions of the kids coming through.
