PARRAMATTA has formally opened talks to re-sign superstar fullback Jarryd Hayne.
And the timing couldn’t be better for Hayne.
The Eels and NSW champion has been in sparkling form, scoring another two tries in his side’s strong win over Cronulla at Remondis Stadium on Saturday night.
Victory keeps Parramatta in the semi-finals hunt.
Hayne has indicated he wants to remain at Pirtek Stadium long-term, with his asking price no doubt around $1 million a season.
He is the hottest player in rugby league at the moment.
Hayne, 26, is under contract until the end of next year but will be on the radar of just about every club in the NRL.
Parramatta will try to keep Hayne until the end of either 2017 or 2018.
Hayne has indicated he wants to stay, saying: “If I wanted to go, I’d be long gone.”
Hayne has scored 15 tries in 16 games this season and is Parramatta’s big hope of reaching the finals.
Parramatta winger Ken Sio will leave after this season for Hull in the English Super League.
The Eels may be looking to offload some more of their roster to have a fair dinkum crack at Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans, who comes off contract after next season.
