Did you see on NRL360 last night they quoted a few Super League (20th Anniversary) facts. One was that at the height of the SL war the Eels fielded a team worth $11M.

FMD how much was MacCraken, Dymock, Smith and Pay on ?

AND why TF did we not win the comp that year ? :fist:

The question is, how much was Kerry Packer & Co and the ARL paying???

If we get enough injuries and he plays first grade then he won't have been a waste of money.

Ideally you never have to use any players outside the top 25 and then all your second tier players are by definition a waste of money.

How many players outside the top 25 do you reckon we've used so far this year? I would say John Folau might be the only one (if he's not top 25 already).

With currently 9 players unavaliable (Pauli, Jnr, Tautai, Taka, champion, pritchard, Semi, Edwards, Fa'aoso) a maximum of 2 players will have played outside the top 25(falou, Faraimo) assuming all those 9 are in the top 25. Now you could argue Tautai, Champion and Fa'aoso are not top 25.

I think we will probably have a lot of players between 50-80K (i.e low range top 25 squad or high range 2nd tier players) and these guys can be considered a 'waste' of money if they don't work out but I kind agree with Pou that its better to be a waste of money then to be a waste of cap space (i.e Morgan, Terepo).

I'd much prefer have guys like wicks or fa'aoso come into the team be a risk and possibly never play them (i.e they cost money but not squad balance) then having people like Morgan on high wages and playing in wenty. the more 50-80K players you have the more 300-500K players you can afford that will win you games.

Allegedly 700k last season was being paid to players not with us. How much of that went here, there or everywhere, we don't know.

But we had some plodders on hefty cash, and are paying some blokes like stars when they are far from it. If those numbers are being shuffled around (ie, offering lower amounts), then there is every reason to believe there is still cash to spend.

Am surprised DA, BA, SS & SS did not pull out all their hair as they rummaged through the cap records of our squad. It must have been a nightmare for them. Bless their hearts for having the patience to ride this madness out and for having the foresight (not foreskin OMC) and determination to create the uplifting-revolution we are all now experiencing. Our club is in great hands. When was the last time many of us could all agree on this unanimously???

Tamou has played Origin and for Australia. He mightn't be the player he was, on form if not ability, but he is far from useless.

At the right price he is a good signing (like anybody).

Wasn't Tamou's last contract signed when he was that Origin and Aust rep and so he ended up getting 600K+ a year or something? Seemed fair at the time because he was playing very good footy. But he's declined markedly since then. If he wants similar money he'll get it from someone desperate like the a Raiders or Manly or the Dragons. Not us surely. Let this other chumps get in a bidding war for him.

Also keep in mind this - Hayne would of taken up close to 1 million this year. And 1 million next year. The fact is we probably front loaded guys like tepai and watmough with the spare million for this year. That means over the next two years we would have an extra 500k to spend over the salary cap.
The bulldogs did the same year when they lost a heap of guys-They ended up with the spoon than gf the next year.

Lets say haynes original 1 million is now forans pay.
Than we have a bonus 500k for the next two years( from beeing under this year)
Hoppa would be on IMO about 150k less on new contract.
Sandow id assume would be the same.
There is 800k right there and already accounting for FORAN. Id imagine guys like Falou-Tepai would demand a bigger pay but you talking maybe an xtra 150k each. There aint too many more who would be needing an upgrade IMO.

Also you may cut Morgan+ Terepo + Champion and there is another 450k.Plus pending on lussick staying and if he does again would be for less than getting now.

Oh and Wicks would deff need an upgrade too!

Would like us to hold off on selling Terepo until we see another 3 to 4 NRL performances from him. What we recently saw from him against Soufs was a different player. His skillset, body shape and physical prominence bending the line & not being pushed back and back was a revelation. I very much liked his performance and want to see more from him, possibly 10 years of it...

I don't see there being any correlation? Just pointing out that the Ewing factor is a bunch of crap.

Teams don't magically play better when they lose their best player. It takes a lot of hard work to get the team to perform better, and if they do, it is certainly NOT because they lost their best player, it is because the hard work has been put in.

We had a bunch of talented young blokes in the squad last year, and we were only just starting to 'change the culture'. They say it can take 18 months to break a bad culture, hopefully we are well into that process by now. The Warriors game (to me) suggested we were - yes, we got pumped - but to be 'thrashed' 29-16 is very different to getting thrashed 42-10. It shows that the long term process is starting to work doesn't it?

Agreed

BA & Co must be applauded for what we are now witnessing.....

So Hayne has signed a three year deal with San Fran. Tamou will be with us before June 30. Beau Scott is more than a maybe on compassionate grounds but I wont divulge the personal issues. Izzy to sign after the Rugby Yawnion world cup.

So all that's missing is the seal...

Surely Wicks wasn't Top 25 to start with
