Actually we do have an idea of what players get paid because we know the value of the cap and we are able to divide it by 25 to come up with a mean. We also know the minimum salary. From there we certainly do speculate but it's educated speculation, which is why we're able to have these conversations. The fact we don't know the exact values just means we are able to argue about it.

It's not a matter of not overpaying for players. The secret of success is underpaying enough of them at any one time that you accrue a significant advantage under the cap.

John Folau at $100k-$150k is much better value than John Folau at $250k. Even if $250k best reflects his value next year. Obviously we'll never know the truth.

I've made it a goal of mine not too ever use this word on here or in conversation in general.
If we rated Falou high enough we should of signed him for longer than 1 year at the end of 2014. Its not like his potential has exploded in the last 4 weeks.

True. From an outsider looking in i think falou has a fairly limited ceiling and 250k is what i would pay if proven. I don't think i would invest more then 100-120k, i doubt he'll be more then a squad player over the next 2 years especially with Hoppa, Radradra, taka all guaranteed spots, Reece doing well and talk of investing in a quality outside back like alex Johnson. So it would be dumb to pay a squad player 200+k

I tend to agree I have big doubts regarding Folau re signing with barely any first grade to his name, and some way off from being 1st grade standard, maybe big picture is getting his brother over, hope I'm wrong....

Manu Ma'u was re-signed after playing just one first grade game and it was rumoured that he was actually re-signed before that game and they announced it afterwards.

Radradra is reportedly on $250k and he was re-signed well after he made his first grade debut. I highly doubt that Folau is on this money.
