I'm still lost at why the NRL does not make clubs list who their current Top 25 players are at any given time. Would it not make it more transparent with this second tier cap situation?

If that's the case above though it's fair to say that these 23 are in our top 25:
Champion
De Gois
Edwards
Fa?aoso
Gower
Hopoate
Lussick
Ma?u
Mannah
Moeroa
Morgan
Norman
Pauli
Paulo
Paulo
Peats
Radradra
Robinson
Sandow
Takairangi
Terepo
Watmough
Wicks

So, who would the other two be out of??
Crooks
Matterson
Nelson
Quinlan
Toutai
Kelly

The other two are Matterson and Toutai

They would be culling him to make way for the Mat'tt'ttaiauuai triplets upgrades which will cost them a motza.

I'm not a fan of the Beau Scott signing, if in fact it turns out to be true... If we didn't have Watmough as that old, hard head in the pack to mentor our younger blokes, then yeah, he'd be good. But I don't think we need both.

Perhaps this means Tepai will move back to the bench, with Seffa Paulo out. How long is Kenny Edwards signed for? Maybe he will be squeezed out too....

For the money that I assume Scott would be asking for, I would rather we chased an outside back... someone like Simona. Or another decent prop. Pauli might have to make the transition to prop, if in fact BA plans to keep him around...

It just means we will commit to only two genuine props in the 17. One will start, with the other coming off the bench. The starting team will include two 'locks'. Maybe one of them will be a middle half!!!

So using that argument, should there be a rule that you have to use your Top 25 players first, before using any others, irrespective of positions that people play?[/i]

I already said the NRL isn't forcing teams to play front rowers out wide. Your example was being forced to use Terepo rather than Wicks. (Though I'm sure Wicks is top 25.)

As the post above says, making clubs play Danny Wicks on the wing before Faraimo gets a game. After all, it's a Top 25, not a Top 31.

Agreed. I even made this point in my post.

If it was Crooks and Toutai, why would we have picked Folau and then Fariamo ahead of them (I accept Toutai was injured) and dipped into our second tier cap and effectively just swapping around 'nuffy' players.[/i]

As you said, Toutai was named then withdrew 'at the last minute' for Folau.

As for the second tier cap, we have one starting outside back out for the season and another out until the Origin period. We may as well commit a couple of players to the second tier cap, and Folau and Faraimo are those two players. That leaves room for another three or four more players in the second tier cap.

Remember last year we started round one with three second tier players in the NRL starting side (Radradra, Ma'u, Edwards).

Also...would we seriously have only two halves in a 25 man squad?

No probably not. half_back says it's Toutai and Matterson, which fits (Matterson re-signed for three or four years), plus I trust half_back's info. It always makes sense.
