As far as a backrower goes we have -
Gower
Pauli
Tepai
Edwards
Mau
Nelson (sounds like a dud)

You could say Watmough and seph aren't your traditional backrow types

We really don't need to be chasing $250-300k wingers in Mansour or Tupou who can't play very good in any other position. We already have one star winger and buying another will have to much of our cap tied up in wingers when we really need players in other position.

Also with Davis, Goodall, Falou and Lavaka we should have a decent cheap rookie for a few years

Of course we need a f**king backrower. Did you watch Wenty on the w/e ?

If we lose another we are f**ked.

EDIT: Unless you want to start shuffling big time and shift Taka into there, Hoppa takes his spot, Norman at 1 and debut young Matterson.

I watched Matterson on saturday-Live at the game. Looked well ordinary.
Wasnt too many guys in that team that i would say are close to first grade.
Ulesa looked ok but seems slow off the mark and IMO Lassalo made some nice charges but looked unfit.
The backs did not impress me one bit.

Are you kidding? Mansour surplus to requirements? Dream on.

Well the way i see it..

Moylan - No way will they let go
DWZ-No way will they let go
Idris-Maybe
Whare-Maybe
Mansour-Maybe

So then they have Waqa blake who people consider the best prospect penrith have had in a long long time. They wont let him go.
Plus the Jennings brothers, both who are rated high.I saw the older one play first grade in two games this year.He looked sharp, but the younger guys is who is rated the better.

We should enquire, would be fools not too_Or atleast ask about one of the jennings boys.I think Penrith will release 1-2 of either Idris-Whare-Mansour for salary cap reasons.

they both, however, play lock

There are enough quality backrowers in the club and by next year we will have even more. You do realize that Pauli and Junior still need to be fitted in somehow. Sure Junior is a FR but he will take one spot and if we don't find a place for Pauli, he will eventually get pissed and leave. Also we still have Kenny Edwards to fit in somewhere, not to mention Fa'aoso, Ualesi and Matterson that should be very close to ready if we needed them.

So like I said it is our strongest position, so unless this back rower is better then what we already have and is an absolute standout, he would be surplus to requirements.

Outside backs please. We have NONE!!!

You are right, we should inquire about Penrith players and I would be very disappointed if we haven't already, but Mansour would be way down the list of players the Panthers would be considering of releasing. The guy just played for Australia and is in the top three metre eaters of the NRL.

Cleal and Gus aren't that silly and it isn't Parra we are talking about. Mansour is at the peak of his craft, and may even play SOO this season. Half of the others you have highlighted are rookies granted with great potential, but have yet to prove themselves in the NRL.

Would you really cut Mansour? No freakin way.

So, of the 6 players you mention Ram, 4 are not backrowers (in the edge forward sense). You've listed 3 blokes who play in the middle and a five-eighth who might be able to play lock.

Pauli is still an unknown quantity at week in, week out NRL level.

Give me Beau Scott or similar any day you like. Moeroa makes some great hits, but misses well more than his share of tackles at the moment, and not just ones that you might blame on an injury. A bit of pressure off the lad would do him some good in the long run.

I'd snap up Whare in a heartbeat...but I don't reckon he's available.

Knights will have a simmilar problem. Enquire about mcmanus IMO as well.

I really hope we keep Pauli. He is the type of player that you enjoy watching, of course you need good defenders but they don't put bums on seats.

The guys I have listed can all play backrow in a heart beat, but what you fail to realize is we are primarily talking about backups if we should get a wave of injuries. So I still stand by my words, backrow is our best covered position and if I went through our roster it wouldn't surprise me to find more, like Terepo comes to mind.

Now if we are talking about Scott, that is a whole different story. Of course you would accommodate him, but considering the coin that he would be on(500k+) he would not be worth it to us.

I would rather spend that sort of money on a gun quality centre or fullback where our stocks are thread bare.

who says that the backs we want are available mid-season.
Let's see how this pans out. Could be nothing, only time will tell

If we allowed Pauli to leave I think it would be a huge mistake. The guy, like you said, is a crowd pleaser and at his best would put bums on seats.

But he is a work in progress and needs special attention and time. But if we manage to hit the right note with him, he could end up being one of the NRL's best and favorite players.
