FFS why didn't Charlie Stains sign with the Hooks Red V-ers.

It would be fun watching the Stinking Stains with Charlie onboard.

Graham and Hiroti 1 year deals. Jensen gone and leaving 2 spots open in the roster for mid season pick ups according to the telegraph

On both fronts.
Absolutely, Graham has been so disappointing, for a number of years now. There’s a place for loyalty and looking after club legends to make our club a long term destination of choice, but there’s a line - it’s shows a bit of a soft underbelly if Wade gets another year - we’re still well short of the ruthless edge in the chase for success that the Roosters and Storm have.
This might be a bit controversial, but I also don’t like the role Wade plays with the Players Association, he’s becoming a bit too much of a whinging bitch for my liking - he’s getting all Clint Newton, where everything has to be for the players. All this BS about the players being ‘genuine partners of the game’ and wanting ‘their slice of the profit, as they are the game’… yet when one of their members does something utterly appalling, they don’t come out and condemn them, don’t support the sport as ‘partners’ by saying ‘kick this bloke out, he’s no good for any of us’. The players are not ‘the game’, they’re simply custodians of a shirt for a period of time, and they are all utterly replaceable. The fans are ‘the game’, the fans who have absolute unwavering tribal loyalty - who’ll be there through thick and thin, who’ll be around a lot longer than any player - they’re the lifeblood, as is Junior and amateur rugby league - that’s where any extra income should be going - that and to welfare funds for ex-players who are physically and mentally goosed as a result of playing the game, not into the pockets of the elite players of the current era.
Rant over… for now!

Pretty much agree with all of that, @Chimp.

I see there RLPA are also agitating for a further 2 million per year to be paid to players in bonuses for playing in semi finals.

While I’m not totally against the idea, as you say grass roots could do with all the help it can get.

For mine, until that gets sufficiently addressed, the players are more than adequately remunerated.

Extra bonuses for players playing finals will just mean the better teams stay strong and the lesser ones find it harder to compete.

Imagine the clubs, sure we can't match their raw pay but you'll play semi's with us and get extra payments that way.

I remain unsold on Will.

He is pretty damn good, sweep left or right, fantastic.

Defence, well a lot work required.

Straight up the middle, yeah lazy.

Then let's talk Blayke, Cameron's calf at best......

Ennis cries a little with me.

Couldn't agree more, Newton comes across like he thinks he's some top end of town heavy hitter. Ordinary football player who only got to first grade because his old man was Jack Newton.

The players deserve to be payed well but I'd rather them just tell the truth that they want more money (like we all do) and not try to spin that garbage that you mentioned.

2 utterly pointless re-signings though as we all know wade starts every game he's available next season despite being one of the worst players in the comp now and would rather bring back Isaac Gordon or Ryan McGoldrick than ever see Hiroti play for us again.

Great post @Chimp
Wade’s efforts have been sub par for an age and his no show last year during the covid period (team in QLD - whilst he sat on his arse back here) was piss poor. Granted he was recovering from head knocks but if he is as much of a mentor as everyone talks about, why not go north:
I can only say he being captain and a veteran was the reason - almost last old man standing.
On the game itself, dies a little for me each year, but I am getting old.
I feel for kids today - the watered down game we have now is like drinking one of those seltzer beers compared to a Budvar Czech lager

Newton is a shocking leader and the way the RLPA goes about anything is tone deaf and dumb. For example wanting the second strike for drug offences removed - why? Explain that one for me... Get a business guy in there for them and lead them properly.

NRL contracts are f**king bullshit. A player can break it tomorrow if he wants to go to rugby, overseas or another club. Clubs are stuck on dud deals (think dugan, moylan last year etc). NRL is the only sport in the world where they can sign a contract two off seasons in advance. Ridiculous shit that needs to be fixed. Sure they need to get paid correctly but they are taking the piss on many, many fronts.

Anyway on the two staying I get it. Fitz showed many times this year with having Wade off the field (even once where Wade chucked a sook) that Tieg is the future. I can see him in the Fifita role with Tieg starting. On Hiroti - I think he is the worst player I have seen in years but he is down the list on minimum money. He played 2 games last year and if the young blokes keep putting in he won't see the light of day. It is hard to sign a winger when Katoa and Ronnie are locked in - and Iku behind them.

This is one the things that gives me the shits. You often hear the RLPA justifying players looking to get out of deals by saying ‘it’s only the same as if a club wants to move on a player’ - but it’s not, not at all. If a club wants to move on a player, they player still has their full wage guaranteed, because their existing club has to find a club that is willing to take said player, and if the new club doesn’t match their contracted salary, the existing club has to pay the player the difference, the player never loses out. Whereas if a player decides to they want out and throws a sook, the club loses out, as they either have to let the player leave and then try find a replacement, or they make the player see out their contract, but are stuck with a sooking player, who’s potentially not putting in, and could be a bad influence. Add in, if a player starts playing above their contracted value, they expect an immediate upgrade, yet if the player doesn’t meet their contracted value, the club can’t take money off em.
The RLPA are a great example of a lot of what can be wrong with Trade Unions. Their version of ‘partners in the game’ is very obscured and one sided.
And Wade is knee deep in this shit - he should go off and do that full-time.

Agree with all of that chimp. Don’t hear much from the skipper these days. Has his ring so do wonder what more there is for him to achieve. Entitled to stay employed I just don’t hear him saying things that Fifita did.

One of those reserved spots was for David Klemmer, but Newcastle aren't chipping in as much as clubs want them to and Klemmer wants to add additional years.
Heard this has caused Fitz to tread carefully and re-think the situation.

The Tigers are all in on him and with the Knights wanting Brooks there is potential for a swap, but Klemmer is looking for the opportunity to win a premiership and doesn't feel he will achieve it at the Tigers.

So it's a money v success question for him. Judging by his career to date, I am tipping he takes the money in the end.

This is not how I envisaged the dominos falling. Too bad. We could really do with Klemmer.
