According to Walters on Triple M this morning he doesn't believe we have the cap space to sign Roberts, so if he comes it'll either be A) On a discount or B) At the expense of a couple of our fringe players who we'd have to move on.

Or option C) He joins the Rabbitohs

Or Walters is just having a laugh and knows they've already got him over the line.

As much as I hate the broncos, I don't buy in to the whole argument that they couldn't possibly fit him in. They've lost Hodges who would have been among their highest paid players (his contract alone could've been worth double what Roberts would sign for) and they haven't exactly gone on a spending spree. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him sign there.

Souths are an outside hope at Roberts. Broncos looks very likely though.

Souths have enough to offer 400k to Roberts.

Sam is on 500k under the cap for 2016, which is the same before he left. The issue with the deal is TPA's are still being finalised.

Souths have enough as the following left:

Te'o
Merritt
Picker
Starling
Koroisau
Tuqiri
L. Burgess
Lowe
Reddy
Millard
Issac
Dylan
Stewart
Nicholls

We signed Carter and gave him a lifeline. Carter is on peanuts.

Souths have also signed Cook who would have been cheapish and Oldfield who we all know wouldn't be on a lot.

Compare what we've lost to what we've signed and obviously upgraded contracts take a fair chunk, but it's easy to see how we have 400k left.

I'll wait now for trolls to come out with their untruthful bias.

They have lost Hodges, Dodds, Stagg, Vidot, Lowrie, Nikorima, Tayor, Parcell and a few more, but they re-signed Oates, Thaiday, McCullough, McGuire, Glenn, Kahu, Ofahengaue, nikorima. I think they probably have a bit left, but I doubt it's more than half the 500k Roberts wants, and imo he isn't worth more than 300k, at least, not to the Broncos anyway. He also still seems like a lot of work to me and I get the feeling the Titans weren't completely unhappy to see him go.

Why do you keep quoting players that haven't been on your roster for over a year?

Walters is as straight up as they come

Even as a manager he hasn't changed. Amazing person imo as much as I despise his club

Lost me at dodds

As had been pointed out a few times removing a minimum wage earner means replacing them with another

Blokes like nikorima Taylor and Purcell weren't even on the first grade squad = f**k all impact other than losing good talent

Whether you rate him or not, Dodds was on the bench for the GF.

Taylor was on a top tier contract, they didn't want to lose nikorima and made him a good offer to stay - which means they had money to do so.

I know they have to be replaced, which is why I mentioned guys like Ofahengaue and nikorima, who were out of the 20's squad.

I am not under any illusions about the broncos roster, most of what Hodges was on probably would have been absorbed by upgrades to guys like Kahu, Oates etc. Like I said, I doubt they would have much left.

James Roberts has been spotted at St George Leagues Club according to a couple of randoms on Twitter.
