U can't make a player redundant. Redundancy laws state u can only make someone redundant if their current role is being changed or removed from an organisation, which certainly isn't the case here.

As they are contracted - we have to pay out the remainder of the contract value - or find another club willing to. Whether or not we have enough money under the cap this year to pay out next years contracts for some players remains to be seen I guess.

I didn't mean redundancy in the true sense just that we offer them an extra payment (which I accept needs to be included in the cap ) for this year to terminate their contract.

OK so 12 go out, 4 coming in

we're short 8 players and we got one week to go to round 13

how do we fill that gap ?

surely not with 8 NYC players, we already pinched all the good ones

And our post Keating era begins..........

Interesting that Sticky thought Reni was captaincy material, now doesn't rate him as a first grader ??

I think most of us were expecting a lot more from Reni this season. He's been a big disappointment this year unfortunately and doesn't seem to be relishing under the captaincy.

Finally! About time Stuart starting discarding the mess that Kearney left.

Of the names mentioned:
Maitua - he has gone backwards. I think some in the club overrated him based on a few games

Keating - ABOUT TIME!

Ben Smith - was always going to be cut.

Roberts - enough said

O'Hanlon has also been grossly overrated.

Tonga - big bust and waste of money

Blair - yep, happy he is gone. All this talk he was a future Origin star was a joke. But he will probably go to Manly and do just that.

Thank you Stuart and the club for finally putting the foot down. Now keep going please!

Wow. Its a great move. Theres no point playing for players who were signed as first graders but who are really reserve graders or who have never kicked on. Reni was always going to be moved on this year or next, Ricky has just brought it forward. Tonga was past his best when he got here. Smith's time as a first grader has passed, while Keating, Roberts etc never stepped up a level.

Given the scale of the cull its a bold decision. Hopefully there are no major disputes from this decision. And hopefully the roster can be filled. I do feel a bit sorry for Cheyse Blair and Luke Kelly.

You most certainly can compare some Australian sports to some American sports, and the NFL is the closest example of a professional sporting competition to the NRL. It's not a perfect comparison, but it's the best we've got.

Also, as someone already pointed out, the way things go in the U.S. and A generally portends the future of things in Oz.

If the model was similar yes but it's nothing alike apart from the term of salary cap

I applaud the Para management for doing this, as a Broncos fan I hope they do something very similar.

Need to get rid of the coach who signed a 30+ yr old from his worst season only to see the 2 younger ones wanting out now because of it.

Why can't we sign players for next year after Round 13?

Serious question.

Why we re-signed Keating was beyond me..........finally the culture might be changing.

I think Sandow is very lucky - but could easily get the cut if he doesn't do anything for the rest of the year
