Atkinson and Wishart have looked much better than many starting halves, I don't understand how other teams haven't had a crack. It's disappointing as a fan as there's many teams they'd make more interesting to watch.

Oh it absolutely is, and I reckon the Knights management would be the first to say that. Anytime we want to sign someone though that might have even the smallest amount of interest from another club in a capital city the deal is horrendous. I think people forget we offered a rookie that had played a couple of games close to 700k. I totally get everyone externally being shocked by the offer, but for the Knights it’s sort of par for the course.

Regional teams like the Knights and Raiders live in a completely different recruitment environment to the rest of the NRL. It’s sad but it is what it is. I was shocked when it was reported the Raiders offered Leo Thompson 900k, but I also wasn’t. That’s what they obviously thought they needed to pay to get him to Canberra and it still wasn’t enough.

But I genuinely don’t know what else the knights could do to try and alter the course of their team

Comments about clubs like the Raiders and knights living in a different recruitment world are spot on. It requires different routes... Canberra have overpaid a shit ton of young talent and are hoping they hit... if that doesnt work, we're probably not far off deciding this kind of offer is our only way forward too.
