Rumoured Signings

Since when did the NRL Facebook page start posting rumors? As a tigs fan I’d love this rumor to be true. I hope he brings Pangai and Oates with him. But not Boyd. He can stay in Brissy.
It’s not just on that page. Fox has the same article I think

If this comes to pass, it will be a hit to Ivan Cleary's integrity. Signs a 3 year contract and the bails after 1 year to go to the Panthers, pretty ordinary to be honest. Would make his 'on the bus" comment ring very hollow.

As to Bennett joining the Wests Tigers, if that occurs, I hope he doesn't following the blueprint he used at the Newcastle Knights. As if he does, he'll leave the joint worse off.

Can't believe Cleary would go back to Penrith after being sacked by Gus.

Unless he is admitting that Gus pulled the right reign and he was in fact 'a tired coach'.

But to go back and work for Gus, looking over his shoulder, does not make any sense.

It makes a ton of sense
They’re going to pay him a shit load of money and he gets to coach his son, which is apparently what both he and his son want

You guys pretending that Cleary should be so offended about Gould sacking him a few years ago that he’d never work for him again... pro tips, it’s a business, and the opportunity to coach his son and fat f**king bag full of cash is a super quick way to rebuild a bridge

I'm a Penrith fan and it's hard to disagree with anything you say here. I'll take him as the alternative of losing Cleary (Nathan) after we have developed him into one of the better prospects would be a bitter pill to swallow.

BBbbut . . . didn't Nathan already sign a lengthy extension a week or 2 ago ? So his merkin of a dad's merkin act has SFA to do with "alternatives". You weren't losing Nathan at all.
"Bitter pill". Ironic.
I find it very hard to be civilised on this topic. I honestly hope this goes horribly, horribly wrong for penrith.
Whatever the real reason was for gould sacking IC will surface once more. It's just like re-kindling a relationship with your ex-girlfriend. Whatever broke you up the first time invariably comes into play again. I really hope it all goes to shit, and penrith are stuck with the bed they made for 5 long years. If ic wasn't good enough a few years ago, he has done sweet fxxx all since to change that.
GFY ivan cleary and gus, too. It's probably hard to tell, but I'm pretty disappointed in the hollow bullshit cleary came up with at the Tigers. The whole " we are building something special . . . it's a 2-3 year job . . . and you are either on the bus or not" . . . the way he has turned 180 on all that says a fair bit towards the person he really is.

You don’t think Nathan’s contract had clauses regarding his dad coaching and the Panthers didn’t negotiate with Ivan until Nathan was signed?

I agree it’s a shit go by Ivan, but it was clearly a package deal.

The other side of that is it’s not like the Cleary’s aren’t talking! Haha

As soon as Nathan signed you knew he must have got word form Dad that he was on his way
It was clear that Nathan would be leaving unless the panthers found a way to get Ivan
So the panthers did what they had to do. Can’t knock their hustle. You’d want your club to do it too in the same circumstance

Sucks for the tigers though and their fans are right to feel disappointed with IC

No matter which way you spin it, Ivan Cleary to Wayne Bennett is a massive upgrade.

So if the Tigers can pull this off it'd be like getting dumped by an unattractive girlfriend only to stumble balls deep into the hot chick of your dreams.

*edit* I apologise if that conjured any mental images of going balls deep in ole Wayne.
