Jake Clifford eyeing an NRL return.

There was something there but man we struggled to get it out of him consistently. Basically any game he didn't put in a spiral bomb ended up being a shit game.

For the right price he'd be great to have here I think.

EDIT: I could see him ending up somewhere like the Cowboys or Dolphins though, maybe even Titans so he can be in Qld.

I reckon only sign 1 of off contract and keep a spot open.
Signing will likely be Mann.

To be honest, poor kicking game aside, I think we look way better with Hastings. Not saying he’s a world beater but we’ve definitely got better structure in attack this year and that’s a lot to do with Hastings (definitely not coaching).

Yeah I'm not suggesting he replace Hastings, but he'd be good depth and a 5/8th option.

I doubt he comes back here and maybe we don't want to revisit that and we're moving forward with Rivett. Clifford still a good depth option, maybe even for #9.

No chance Clifford comes back here. Didn’t he make some social media comments implying that we didn’t look after him? Either way we tried already with him and it didn’t work out so time to move on.

Can’t understand why some on here are proposing we might sign the likes of Clifford when we have weaknesses in other positions. We are cash strapped and have only a few positions available so we should be looking at what we need rather than the best available. Our top 17 are ok but our backups in some position is poor we are heavily reliant on young up and comings that pushed into firsts early might be detrimental to them and our future success

The club has to give these kids a chance or they will walk or worse fall into oblivion. As great as Penrith are they rolled the dice where others did not, and it worked. A team of kids who have played together for over a decade or more. The whole comp has been scrambling ever since to catch up.

I 100% agree for them to be getting a chance if they genuinely deserve it and are going to offer us as much as an external signing.

There seems to be a bit of a view that just because a player has come through our system they’re entitled to a run in FG and a contract.

If they fall into oblivion then they weren’t up to it. Trust me, if we had any juniors bashing down the door we’d be aware of them.

I feel like we’re in a completely different situation to Penrith whose group who have come through are actually talented.

What we need is a complete overhaul of our junior system. Sounds like Parr is aware of that with his meeting with Gould. That will take 5-10 years before we even start seeing the products of that coming through, and that’s if we get it right.

Very few of the current bunch in the top 30 fill me with any excitement or feeling that they will do a Penrith and start some kind of dynasty. Looks more like we’ve f**ked our cap up by overpaying certain juniors like the Saffs and Best (Ponga too obviously but at least he’s earning his money this year) and we don’t have anything left so we’ve just promoted some juniors naively hoping we won’t get any injuries.

Whatever the problems are with our juniors they are not going to fixed any time soon.

This discussion has been going on for a long, long time. We are at the bottom of the pile when it comes to identifying, securing and developing talent into decent, long term first graders who can also go on to play rep footy.

The whole thing is a mess.

We’ve long prioritised winning trophies at the junior level rather than player skill development which is one of the biggest issues. As a consequence of that we’re often investing in the wrong kids because a lot of them look good in winning junior teams but they don’t actually have special skills to make it in FG.

Read a nice story about Best this morning where he attributed his development to Scott Dureau. Talked about how he was playing lock but Scott saw him as an outside back and even played him at fullback for a couple of seasons to help develop his understanding of the game. I don’t imagine we put that much care and effort into every players development. The key is recognising the ones with talent and focus on developing that rather than winning junior trophies.

Rolled the dice? They built a plan to fix their juniors and then back the system to roll them through. Took 8 years and a lot of patience

No surprise someone as smart as Scotty is with football IQ, would see Bradman as a centre over being a back rower. He was ridiculously underrated as a halfback.
I actually remember a lot of us rating his footy IQ, he just was let down by his athletic ability.

If only we could have merged Dureau and Walsh at the time.. We would have had quite the player on our hands.
