That’s pretty standard for a good young centre these days tbh. I’m actually really happy with those figures considering the Tigers offer could have turned it into a bidding war.

When you think the likes of V Holmes are on around 850k, I’d much prefer Best.
Holmes is a goalkicker too though. Not that I'd trade Best for him necessarily, but Holmes kicked at 82% this year.

It's less than 6% of the salary cap. It's not beyond reasonable, he's elite now. He's staying for below his market rate, which is more than you can say about most blokes lately coming/going from the club. We'll always find something to complain about I suppose, but how much further below his market value would he have to take to appease us?

Happy he's staying.

This is true, but even Holmes aside most centre contracts are increasing significantly for coming years. Wighton for example (signed to play centre) is on 800k which goes up to 950k for his final year of his contract.

With the cap increases, 700k for Best come 2027 (when he’ll still only be 25/26) will seem like nothing.

Yeah, I mean he’s taking 100k less than he could get elsewhere to stay with us. Isn’t this what we wanted? The Best situation kind of highlights why it’s important to have some juniors in the squad who will be happy to take a bit less to stay.

And I don't think we lose much, if anything, having Best over Simple Jack anyway. Not as a centre.

Smart how? This would be a pretty weird way to do business in the sporting industry
He went in for the big offer. Otherwise why did he got to market? Wasn’t enough to make him leave. Now he wants to claim he doesn’t want it to drag on. The club runs the show. Not him. Happy for him to stay but we do not owe him any form of timeline.

Mate... I just can't get your line of thinking? Why would any player or player manager want to deal with us if we're f**king around playing games like this? You just get the deal done when it's ready to be done by both parties. It's business. Being petty and vindictive isn't going to get us anywhere fast, and at worst will cost us credibility in the market and - potentially - signings. Bradman hasn't done anything wrong, he's fully entitled to test his value.

In your eyes, what advantage do we gain by making Bradman wait? Both in this current negotiation, and in the future?

Why are we assuming Best was holding out or that he’s done anything wrong here? It going into November doesn’t mean squat.

Hell maybe the Knights didn’t get a contract to him right away because we were going over our cap and finances or maybe the people responsible were on AL.

He’s never ever insinuated that he wanted to leave, he’s not even off contract until 2025 and he took unders to stay with us. There’s no issue here.

He wanted to test his value and found the grass isn't greener. He actually has reportedly taken under the Tigers offer to stay

Shitting on a player for exercising his right would be the stupidest move possible for the reasons pervy outlined ie the club would come across as petulant and unprofessional

Your pov is fairly naive

He may be staying for unders, but no doubt we've been paying him overs for years. All balances out in the end I guess.

He's already on 700k in 2024 apparently and one of the five highest paid centres in the game.

If he extends for another three years at the same price I definitely don't see that as unders, but not a bad deal for the club (unless his body falls apart).

I would say he's been getting paid overs on potential, and is now taking a bit less to carry on... but it's splitting hairs. As long as the deal is comfortable for everyone, then happy days... which is the main point. I do believe it is, too. Not much we can do about the body, at least he's coming off a season where he played more minutes than anyone else in the squad.
