Might not be taking much space up now, but next renegotiation he will and they'll have to find room somewhere.

Also, if you have the opportunity to earn double somewhere else and there is no path for him at his current club something has to give...

Yep. But I see that being in 2019 not 2018.

I wonder how seriously we are looking at Te Maire Martin if the Panthers are serious about moving him on ASAP. He would fill that Connor Watson 6 role. I guess it depends on how likely the club thinks it is Watson will be released.

Tigers were after him but no longer after getting Reynolds.

Apparently Warriors are chasing him but they couldn't accommodate a mid-season switch.

TMM at 6, Ponga at 1 would be a great talent injection. Get a good half at 7 and we would be in business.

Assuming we sign some fwds. Starling and Stockwell are not up to it and King and the twins need time.

No it doesn't. The roosters (much like the Sharks and Maloney) will just say you've got a contract with us for 2018. The end.
The thing is you take that attitude and they are virtually assured of going elsewhere the minute they get out of their contract.

The NRL is full of examples that show that recruitment and retention in the game doesn't work that way.

If we aren't out there asking the questions we aren't getting the players that are on the market but not necessarily listed...

Life isn't as cut and dried as that. Sure they have the ability to say no flat out, but often clubs will consider squad harmony in this sort of stuff.

Watson clearly isn't going to be more than a bit-part player for the Roosters going forward so they may be open to it if they feel they have or can get a replacement.

I can't see Cronulla letting Maloney go but they may have to pay him more immediately to keep the peace

What's the list of contracted players that have forced their way out of contending teams?

Ben Hannant pulled the homesick card to leave the dogs.

Mitch Barnett & Brendan Elliot last year were both in a pretty similar situation to what Connor Watson is in right now.

Nah they were pretty well down the pecking order. Watson is playing first grade when Pearce is on origin duty.

Gee Hoffman would look right at home at the Knights with that defensive effort.

Just watching the Warriors v Roosters game, SKD doing some good stuff in this match. Made a long break which lead to a try and then scored off an intercept in the second half.

Hoffman has been poor though, missed a tackle that he should have made which lead to a try and a couple of errors when on attack. Not sold on Hoffman, I can see why his experience would be valuable but I just feel that he's a bit over the hill now and I'm not convinced he would contribute more on the field than our current first choice second rowers.

Woods is now confirmed to the dogs, cooling off period is over. Yet we still aren't even hearing the slightest whispers about Foran and the dogs. It was the same day as woods when he allegedly signed with them.

So who is backing up Pearce in 2018 if not Watson? They can't exactly go and buy someone when they are shedding players to fit Tedesco in.

I wonder if NAS would enjoy living in Merewether and earning a million dollars a year?

If the news spin is anything to go by, the NRL are being considerably tight when it comes to approving the Foran contract. I'm assuming they want to see the club release players to make room for Foran and any other signings (Dugan one seems likely), before they green light the contracts.

With the Woods contract all done, I would guess in the coming week or two we'll see a greater push to make room for Foran; hopefully that includes us bagging Graham or Tolman from the club.

Funny the letter was sent to the dogs before the official announcement of any of these signings. But they approved Woods signing clearly, why now hold up Foran.

Shouldn't have approved any if they were doubting their cap room.

Mate do you really think clubs are intent on ruining kids careers to hold onto them long-term just in case they are required for two Origin rounds a year? This isn't a video game. CEO's aren't all Mr Burns from the Simpsons.

Regardless I'll answer your question because clearly you don't know the answer. Jayden Nikorima and Ryan Matterson are ready right now and signed for 2018. That's not to mention the ability to sign a Mitch Cornish or Sam Williams, or an Under 20s player to come through.

Ironically Mitch Cornish is in the Roosters top 25 this year along with as you said Matterson and Nikorima so they have plenty of options

Hoffman, Graham and Lillyman for decent coin would do our team wonders. They might not be the players they were 5 years ago but in a team full of kids, they would be invaluable. Our star signing is also a kid so I think it's preferable to sign experienced players to complement the team.
