Will be interesting how much of that cap space goes towards trying to keep Ponga.

I think all of his contracts with us have been upgraded only part way through??

It better not be. He's already one of, if not the highest paid player now.

We have a great opportunity to build strongly around him and if he wants to win a comp that's what we need to do.

The talk has been around him waiting to see if we have a team capable of challenging for the title before he commits the further two years.

If he takes a dollar more to stay here, it will only weaken the team and show that it’s about the money, not winning titles.

Munster will sign with the Dolphins I reckon. Storm reported to be asking him to take a 2 million dollar pay cut over 3-4 years. Anasta is his manager now, and reading the room on NRL 360, Braith basically gave the impression his choice is already made for him. If so then they cannot afford KP at his current asking price.

the Sardines wont be short of 3rd party deals, Bennett doesnt go to decks not stacked.

To Ponga I reckon that he hasnt signed the player option is not a good sign some 8 weeks out from a deadline. The interview I heard with Cam Smith sounded as if he was out the door.

I didn’t like the way he responded to Fittler last week on Channel 9. Fittler asked if he was going to re-sign with the Knights. Ponga trotted out a whole lot of “I don’t think that far ahead, I leave all that to my manager” garbage.

I’m a big Ponga fan and hope we keep him but it was pretty offputting. A couple of months ago he was throwing out the “I love this group of lads and want to win a comp with them” instead.

As much as I want to keep Ponga, I feel confident that the club is capable enough to manage the situation.

The most disturbing thing I've read in the last few posts is that not only is Braith Anasta a player manager, he's a player manager for a big player like Munster.

His previous manager was the pieman literally, took him for a ride

to be fair i think we all kind of knew Ponga wasn't going to commit until he had a firm idea where we were at as a club. Obviously the way we started the season (leaving aside Barnett's brain explosion today) is a positive sign as is the investment in coaching staff and facilities.

Bennett has been quoted, as nauseum, that it is vital the Dolphins are very careful to recruit only players who are of the highest quality off the field. Culture is above all else.

If he sticks to that mantra…

is this the same Bennett who in the past has signed guys like BJ Leilua, David Faalogo, Tevita Pangai Junior and Matt Lodge?

Yep.

Laughable isn’t it.

But that’s what is most important apparently- the character and culture the signings bring.
