There's a reason why the blokes playing Cup are playing Cup. Dylan Phythian scored 3 this week, but has been garbage prior. To play him - we'd either need to ask the NRL for an exemption, which I don't know how likely they are to grant when we've got a top 30 spot available - or give the bloke a top 30 contract and completely waste our last roster spot on a plodder. The other bloke playing in the halves in Cup is a forum favourite by the name of Tex Hoy. So no answers there.

"Get some bloke from a good team in reserve grade" - could you be more specific? Most of the blokes doing well in these competitions are already on contract with other clubs - they are the blokes who good teams have as quality depth players in their top 30s. If you have a name, rate them and know they're uncontracted - maybe you should give the club a call.

We have a roster spot and around $700k to spend by June 30th, and nowhere to spend it. I don't get why you're running around scoffing at ideas when your own are garbage too.

What are we doing with our last roster spot, is the question? I'm lost for it, and can't believe the club have put themselves in this position tbh. Well actually the sad thing is I can believe it... but I'm still disgusted.

We're going to end up clogging up yet another slot in the roster with another reserve grader for a couple of years - when we've got ~15 of them in there already.

Mann has got an ankle injury and won't be back for a few weeks at least

Pythian hasn’t played all games this year but has been far from garbage playing in a injury effected side that severely lacks experience but he has looked the most likely to be the danger from games I’ve seen.
Pythian isn’t anywhere as good as Mullen was but better than Mullen would be now, if we had to pick a half for this week between the two then it is Pythian

I want them two English lads here asap! When will Hodgson get better btw? I'm all for putting Ponga in the halves because he is by far the worst defensive fullback I have ever seen. He is excellent in the tackle but most of the time he is on the other side of the field when needed to make a cover tackle.

I'm not dragging you anywhere, you plonked yourself there by looking down at others while being equally as clueless. If not moreso even - I had to educate you on the cap and roster situation.

We're not quite above it, and I hope the same... but I can see it happening shortly. Regardless of the cap - we're obligated to fill that 30th spot - and soon. If we can't find someone who is a long term solution, then we need to find someone that's actually useful to us now that is also happy to only hang around until the end of the year.

To play him we either need to have an exemption granted by the NRL, or to upgrade his contract to a Top 30 spot. The first doesn't seem terribly likely to me when we have a roster spot available to use.

If we upgrade him, the best case scenario is we're stuck with a halves version of Chris Randell for the next 1 or 2 years clogging up yet another roster spot, and no more flexibility in the roster to pull in someone else.

He definitely does! His whole career has been like this. It seemed like he found some decent consistency for us, but for him to be as bad as he has is really shocking.
