If the issue is the players are not up to the standards O’Brien sets and are sabotaging the season, then Garnder needs to make that call, back his coach and make it public. Cos it is either they are completely incapable of developing as players or he is unable to get them to improve as he cannot develop their skill base and football IQ. . Either way it has to be decided which it is cos we are completely in the dark as fans. The club has perfected shutting up shop when things go wrong.
If it the former then O’Brien better know who he needs to make things get to where he wants them. He may put too much faith in his staff to his detriment.

No player is getting better.

Simple as that.

I would suggest some have gone backwards.

As far as player squad, Ponga needs friends.

Get on the phone to Nikora and Pele.

I would rather keep them, but doubt we can compete dollar wise for Nikora and Pele just wants a chance.

Both are better than what you have.

And FFS where are all the Newie juniors?????????

Going backwards it seems.

Hey I like you guys, fix this shyte.

f**k Manly.

Nail on the head.

And yes, most of the squad have gone backwards. That is plain for all to see.

Question is why?

The club have not developed top class spine players since back in the day. f**king forever. Nor has it developed any other players of note tbh save one or two ie K. Gidley.

Question is … why?

Looking through the Reggie’s is as depressing too.

Leave your off cuts at Cronulla, or encourage them to go to nearly any other club because this place will destroy any desire (and chance) they have of forging a successful career.

As for the rest of the season… it is up to the coaching staff to turn the ship around and somehow get the playing group to have a f**king real dig above and beyond anything they have shown in the past month starting with the 80mins this w/e.

Nikora is awesome has been since his debut, I do hope we keep him.

Anyways you need players, Brailey will back, I think Clifford can do, you need a halfback.

Easier said than done.

Clune can be our halfback but he can't do it when our pack are getting dominated, his halves partner is going missing and he's carrying multiple injuries.

It's a mental problem with this squad and it's a tough fix

Is this another one of your truth bombs? Clune and Clifford will never be a premiership winning halves combination under any coach, in any team, ever. We sure do have mental problems, though.

Three forwards have run 100m plus the past 3 rounds and Klemmer two of those

FMD that is atrocious.

very good question. Wests have had the club for a few years now, I'd expect to see some kids on the verge of NRL.
COVID got in the way of any development of young talent. Hopefully we have a plan in place because we need some good ones to come through in 3-5 years.

So did COVID only affect us and not any of the other clubs?

The answer is our juniors are shit. Whoever has been scouting at the club the last two decades has largely got it wrong

Totally get that, but it would have been tough for the 16-18 year olds to progress in that time and evaluate who was worth holding onto as potential FG players down the line.

I don't think this town cares about league as much as it used to as well. I'd love to know how participation compares now to 10-20 years ago.

We need a dominant organizing type of halfback. Clifford and Ponga are ball runners with flair. Brailey will be a godsend when he gets back. We need a Adam Rynolds, Nathan Clearly or Cooper Cronk type. They don't even need to be that good, just be good enough to direct the team around so Ponga and Clifford can attack.

Hence, Brooks was never going to be the answer. I doubt Crossland will have any success as he seems to have trouble his own limbs around, let alone 12 other players.

The kids won’t follow a losing club. Social
Media has completely changed the way clubs approach their setups now. It is something which has completely escaped WESTs. They have no one controlling the way to attract people to the club. But the simple answer is :WINNING!
Politis would have heads on pikes by now. Either the coaches or the players. He is very good at finding who is the actual weak link and removing them.
Back to O’Brien, is it possible his Storm background and uncompromising approach to the players is the issue? And by that I mean hard nosed and not accepting poor training as a option? All our suspicions about the playing group has been laid bare by O’Brien at a guess. It does not excuse the lack of development. But perhaps he has been the catalyst to finally remove the blinders. Perhaps Bennett’s conversation with KP is one which O’Brien would have agreed with privately.

Covid must not have existed out Penrith way the past couple of years???
Think every has missed my point or we have different definitions of juniors.

the guys there for Penrith are 20 and would have been training with FG squad over the last couple of years.

im talking about the next bracket down.

But I acknowledge Penrith just have the best juniors and systems in place.

Not sure you can use that excuse when AOB has had a hand in recruiting and/or retaining most of the squad i think with the exception of Klemmer. If AOB doesn't think this current crop of players is of his high standards than perhaps he should not have extended them.
Everyone points at the Bellamy way but just because a coach has worked under Bellamy it doesn't mean they can just magically replicate the same formula.

The issues plaguing coaches here are clearly beyond mere mortals.

No it's just my opinion princess. You don't have to like it or agree, no skin off my dick

There have been far worse combos winning premierships so I'm not sure how you can be so absolute. Clune has shown a few times he's got it in him. He's not been given much of a go and can certainly be a late bloomer like Fogarty and Cody Walker

Clifford also has it in him but he's clearly got head noise issues

I have zero doubt that both those guys in the Storm system would be a premiership threat. Bellamy had taken similar and made them contenders
