The option would follow him, and be a noose around our neck if the Broncos weren't tipping in for the duration of it.

I don't know that would be the case, depends on the contract I guess.

If the contract says he has an option in his favour to elect to extend the contract with the Broncos, or if it says with the broncos or another club should another club take over the contract.

Surely we aren't dumb enough to "take over the contract". Surely it's a renegotiated contract under our own terms, free from the clauses in his current contract, just with a fee going to the Broncos.

Surely.

Hopefully.
Your cautious optimism seems misplaced when thinking about this administration. Remember, they think Kurt Mann is worth an extra two years, so there's every reason to believe they think whatever terms Matt Lodge has - or wants - in his contract is an even better idea.

800k for two years for Lodge? Not only is he not worth that much, surely we should be spending that money elsewhere?

Quick question, if no one picks up Shuan Johnson, and we can get him for 400k-500k, 2 year deal, do we go for it?

He's an interesting one... The game seems to be heading in his favour, but I'm not sure if he's lost a step due to injury and he's also a guy where I question his overall desire to win at all costs.

How about this Hynes kid from melbourne? Seems to be asking about the same amount money as Mann would but is 10 times the player and way more potential.

I'm still unsure on Hynes, especially as a straight up 5/8th. But yes if he's asking for the same money as Mann then I would pursue him if we insist on keeping both Mann and Watson. I still think only one is required and that money could be better spent upgrading other positions.

What's the source that they're looking for similar money? As I understand it, Newcastle are looking to offer Mann replacement level money to be a jack of all trades backup at a number of positions. Whereas Hynes is looking to leave Melbourne for a big starting contract.

Hynes' value has tripled in the last month- there's no chance he'll be signed on the same money as Mann. If he wants to play 5/8, can he kick or pass? Know he's got a strong running game.

Hynes is on fire. He is a fullback though. Can't see him playing 5/8th for a mega club. I don't think he is on the radar though?

He put in 2 long passes for tries tonight. Passes that i dont think ive ever seen Mann do. Kicks yet to be seen. Think i saw him kick once tonight.

Hynes has all the hallmarks of someone who would be bog-average once he's outside the Melbourne system. Although even that is better than most of the options we currently have.
Antonio Kaufusi is the gold standard for this. Brett White is another one. It just reflects what a genius Bellamy is at getting average footballers to look like world beaters through hard work and knowing your role and repeat repeat repeat.
It is obvious Hynes is a great hole runner and support player. However he won’t take hold of a game and dominate unless he is in a dominant system. I agree.
