The thing with Ponga is he's never felt secure here. He's very vague and non-committal off the field and frankly, on the field too. I still don't think we're getting value for money out of him. It's still just big money for speculation over "what ifs" and "potential". I think it's past the point that he needs to start showing value and commitment on and off the field. Footy just seems like a job to him.

Honestly, Ponga has won nothing and proven nothing. He's not on the level of his peers with similar salaries. At this point I wouldn't be that upset if he left, only disappointed that he never lived up to his massive potential.

I do remember hearing back then we just about had him over the line too, similar to Luki.. Story getting to familiar.

As of right now you gotta be happy we went with Gagai! Staggs could be a super elite centre but he has to iron out a few things. He sometimes goes missing and defence can be really really bad.

I listened to a Baz Toohey podcast where Watson mentioned Kayln had taught him to handle a loss better. To paraphrase - "It's only a job" etc .

In all my time reading about any champion in any sport I can never recall that attitude. I do wonder if Ponga will ever reach his potential.

Joey "the 8th" used to go down the park in between practice sessions , Ponga makes his podcast and takes photos.

It actually seems the opposite with Ponga- footy is a hobby and one of many passions in his life, unlike the guys who seem to live and breathe it 24/7. The good thing is, AOB and others have stated how at training he is quite intense, so hopefully that is the case.

Unfortunately for us, Ponga is the kind of player where 40% of his money comes from the media massively overhyping him. He’s worth big dollars to a club, but most of his value seems to be justified as marketing him as a “marquee” player who attracts others and sponsorships/fans. It’s not based solely on his onfield performances.

It's just such different times now as well I think. He's probably made solid coin outside of footy so why would it be his sole focus and passion?

We all wish he lived and breathed it and like Burwood said, apparently when he's in footy mode he is doing it properly. But as you said, the greats just have that extra edge to them. Teddy and Turbo look like they hate losing more than anything else.

His side gigs will be worthless without a footy career propping them up.
Agreed, if his footy came to a sudden end.

But he knows if he plays things right over the next few years those thing may be the #1 priority and income.

You can't necessarily knock him or any player for thinking or doing that either, but it does feel like footy is his vessel to something else and not his pure passion like any other player on his type of coin.

Also he has only played 1 game this year.. Prepared to give him a fair go to see how he has evolved as a player and leader this year.

He definitely isn't what we needed. Gagai has been the signing of the decade. He is for the backs what Klemmer was for the forwards.

Miss out? More like bullet dodged!

Wow...I didn't know he openly admits that. Not the mark of a Champion that's for sure.

I like the idea of Will Pryce playing fullback here. His tackle technique needs work but that kid is strong, driven and very very quick.

I regularly attended games during the golden years with Joey at the helm. Sometimes Joey would be needed to pull off a miracle play in order to get us a win, but it didn't always work out.

The thing I remember the most about those years is that Joey would punch the ground when things didn't go his way, and he wouldn't hesitate to spray his teammates if they didn't do their job.

I don't see any of that from Kalyn.

We can hope Joey teaches Kalyn to find his inner rage when it is justified.

You would think Kalyn could find some rage considering how much his ears have been exposed to Bieber over the past 2 years:

I mean I go into a deep rage if the Dweeber comes on the radio even once while my wife is driving.

And Kalyn is exposed to that sh*t all the time. Oh hang on... He actually enjoys it. There is no hope for him. None.

Peter Badel saying Nanai to resign with cowboys

not sure if we were even interested in him for the price he was asking though

Cowboys have their money tied up very strangely..

Valentine Holmes - surely on around 400-600k
Chad Townsend - apparently 800kish
Taumololo - apparently 1m

Then between Luki, Nanai and Luciano Leilua.. Where do they all fit and they would all be on solid coin after this season too. You'd think 1.5m between them possibly..
