That was at a time where depth across clubs was great. These days the NRL is spread thin on quality players.

I hope you are right though. We're also still waiting for the fruits of Clint Zammit's labour.

We seem to have the right credentialed people here but I suppose it may take time to see it come to fruition.

I still don’t get it. Head of recruitment living almost as far away from Newcastle as you can possibly get.

Ideally I reckon he’d have scouts looking around local games and more.
I used to go regularly to real NRL games with my father and he had a connection to Saints recruitment. Got a few good local guys a start.

overall Zammit has been pretty disappointing. Where are all these elite young talents he is supposed to find?
What's your definition of disappointing? As in he hasn't found a young guy that's bursted onto the NRL scene?

He's signed a few blokes from New Zealand and they're in our lower grades. Let's see what comes of them before labelling disappointing, IMO.

He has been disappointing. Mooney has twice built Sharks into a title contender.

Elijah Salesa Leaumoana, Jermaine McEwen, Jarome Falemoe & Jayden Harris look like good finds in SG Ball. Keanu Wainohu-Kemp & Jyris Glamuzina are 2 from last year that look like they'll be physically capable of first grade within a few years if we can develop them enough in other areas. All are powerful, athletic kids which is clearly a focus of his, and was when he with the Cowboys too. His strike rate speaks for itself there.

He's not the one getting hands on and developing the players once they're here though, and we've been disastrously bad in that area.

His job is to identify young talent- it’s not his fault the club is shit at developing it into a first grade standard.

Lower grades winning is nice but when will it ever translate into the NRL side.

Let me guess… give it time.

How many representative quality players, let alone top first graders, has this club developed in the last decade?

Toohey indicating we may be looking to swap Young for Sorensen from the Panthers.

Sorensen had a career year in 2022, but the guy is 30. Wish we'd target some decent player with plenty of tomorrows.

I don't really like the swap and I don't think it benefits us more this year, or the next couple.

We have been the worst club in the NRL over the past 20 years. It isn't even close. 4 spoons. We have literally won 20% of the spoons in the modern era.

Why the hell would they deserve any benefit of the doubt. Gotta earn that.
You’re overreacting without knowing the full story behind our 100 year plan.

Our lower grades being very successful of the back of some very good imported talent is disappointing? Hard marker mate
We’ve been killing it for decades in lower grades. Hard marker? Maybe. What we need is a standout who not only is First grade level, but is next level. Yet to see it under Zammit. Will be first to put my hand up if I am incorrect.

He sounds like a leadership signing. At least we get him from a great system.
