Sydney Morning Herald reporting Panthers have increased their offer for Cogger and a decision is expected this week

I would not be so certain Cogger is here as a backup. Why would he leave Penrith when Luai is no guarantee to stay, Salmon leaving, and there is the chance he can win a comp. With Phoenix now a dummy half on the rise then Brailey’s contract becomes an issue. If we are going to get bang for our buck with the cap and have money we need to keep The likes of Best, then those risks are where we are going to have to go.

Lots of reasons he might leave Penrith. Luai’s not off contract until the end of 2024 and unlikely he’ll leave anyway. Money, might want to come home, fancies his chances of securing a FG spot over Hastings/Gamble over Cleary/Luai, etc.

I think it’s great if we have some back ups putting pressure on the FG team, but I really hope we don’t see him as a first choice 6 over Gamble. I’ll give them benefit of the doubt as it was initially reported as chasing him as a back up.

Either way we probably need to be looking for a new role for Pryce as unless he absolutely kills it he might struggle to get into the halves. Maybe centre with Gags retiring and possibly Best off.

For me he is simple insurance for Hastings.

Like others, I just hope we didn't find ourselves in a bidding war and hand out a player option.

No guarantees that Pearce-Paul and Pryce will make it to 1sts and if even do it will likely take 5-6 rounds. They will need to adjust by playing Cup so the need is Cogger as backup at least till then. Need a good start those 5-6 rounds to challenge for semi spot

Presumably we’re looking for a replacement for Young on the right wing, I wonder if the club has looked at Kyle Feldt???

As far as I’m aware he’s probably still under contract (which never seems to stop clubs or players talking to each other) but he’s big and physical, plays right wing, makes good metres and is a good finisher, oh and he can goal kick too. He’s been stuck in reserve grade for a little while now and I wonder if he’s in the Cowboys’ long term plans. Also he’d have a relationship with Parr already too.

Just throwing it out there but I’d be happy if we could get a guy like that. He’s got an error or two in him but so does Young so it’s not like that changes massively. He’s been at the cowboys for a long time now so maybe he wants to stay and finish up his career there but we could do a lot worse as a right wing replacement than Feldt.

Maybe a few years ago but he’s turning 32 early next year so would be a very short term option, he can goal kick but only kicks at 62% for the career so not really an improvement on Ponga
