Rumoured Targets 3

Where are you hearing this?

It's outrageous if true. It would signal that he's happier to play reserve grade stuck behind The NZ halfback and the Australian 5/8th (at the very least) for the next 2 years (minimum) rather than even entertain an offer to play first grade for us pretty much immediately.

God that's grim if there's any truth to it.
I saw it on Instagram lol. Apparently the Storm are grooming him to take over from Munster? I reckon he will get plenty of games off the bench and cover for injuries throughout the season.

If I was a young half I'd probably choose to stay and learn at the Storm for two years over going to a crappy team who is midtable at best one one injury away from a wooden spoon every year.

If they have time for him on the field, I suppose sure.

Doesn't say much about our chances to ever compete for a premiership again though. Can't even entice a guy that's stuck behind 3 other blokes that still have plenty of years ahead of them.

It's a Brent Read article. Says the storm have a three year extension on the table, Pezet doesn't want to leave and there might be a clause that if Hughes extends past 2026 Pezet could leave.

Well I wouldn't want to leave the Storm either. But I guess it depends how long he wants to wait for his shot. Hughes and Munster are both 30. Munster looks on the decline to me but he's contracted until the end of 2027 and that's obviously the 5/8 position.

He won't get a shot at a full time gig until 2027 if he stays - at the earliest.

Depressing, but he hasn't signed it yet. Who knows what games his management (Bwaif) are playing. I guess we'll see what happens.

It's remarkable that some clubs manage to just keep a hold of these kids when they're ready for first grade and hold them back for years until they're ready to use them. Penrith managed the same with Jarome Luai. Meanwhile kids we develop that are still underdone can't wait to run off to another club. The gap between the haves and the have-nots in the NRL continues to widen, and has done for decades. It's hard to ever see our path out of it tbh.

He'd be 1 year older than Hughes was when he started playing for Melbourne. I'd be surprised if he does stay because it's a long time and he could be getting more money elsewhere and have a starting spot much earlier.

Still, wait a few years behind Hughes & Munster in the Storm culture and get developed by Bellamy (for however much longer) isn't exactly a hard sell either.

Tbh I’d be more concerned if the Storm didn’t want to keep him so much. They’re benchmark for player identification so if they were happy to let him walk I’d be concerned. Even more of a compliment to him that fact that they’re offering him 3 years coming off an ACL.

To be fair though, that's partly due to his commentating commitments over there, where he sounds like he's somewhere between Blocker and Freddy tier.
Yes the NZ TV and radio broadcasts of the Warriors are insanely biased, Blair included.

Playing first grade instantly isn't always in the best interest for young halves. Players play for 15 years plus now well into their mid thirties. If he gets a bad start at a crappy club, he might drop out of the competition altogether (we have seen it so often).

I still think we need to upgrade the hooker position before the halves. I do really like Brailey but he isn't good enough anymore unfortunately. Might be the worst starting hooker in the NRL.

If Pezet is willing to wait for those two to retire or move on, then it may suggest the demand for him is not high. Every chance that the club made it clear they were not going to pay a ransom for an un proven half.

We signed Matt Arthur. Very unlikely to find a better hooker prospect anywhere.

Also plenty make it to their mid 30’s, but plenty are cooked by 32 as used to be common. Depends on the kind of player they were. And serious injuries can severely impact your longevity. If I just did my ACL I think my mindset would shift from “I’ve got all the time in the world” to “gee, this could all be over so quickly and then if I haven’t made enough I’d have to get a real job”.

I hope Arthur is as good as you suggest he might be. We are so slow and uninspiring in attack through the middle with Brailey and Crossland. Great defenders though.

Anasta - "you have a some choices Jonah "

1) Stay in a arguably the best system in the league at the Storm fighting for a Premiership every year, play at a club that is consistently leading the way in best practice and strives for perfection.

Play off the bench for a couple of seasons playing alongside a premium spine as support, before taking the reigns for the next 10 years of your career and retire with a few Premierships, raising your brand value, and improving post football opportunities"

2) Go to arguably the bench mark for mediocrity in the league at the Knights & hopefully make the 8 , play at a club that is consistently turning over staff, and fails at basic press releases. Take the reigns immediately playing alongside average players like Gamble/ Cogger for support and with some luck maybe win a Premiership one day.

Tough choice for the young lad.

Would not surprise if the Broncos come a calling also.

Well he won’t be getting a run off the bench when they have arguably the best utility in the game in Tyran Wishart signed up for the next 2 years.

Brisbane have a young kid named Coby Black who’s supposed to be the next big thing coming through their ranks who they’ve had in their system since he was 12 years old and are grooming to take over from Reynolds.

Problem for Pezet is he’s going to find it hard to see any game time given Hughes doesn’t play origin and Wishart is a ready made Munster replacement, aside from that I can also see a scenario where Papenhuyzen transitions into the halves so they can get Sua Faalogo into the team.
